Welcome!
Are you going to hand sew your tail or use a sewing machine? I wish you lots of luck! Make sure you use 4 way stretch spandex material. I went with just a random stretch material I found because it was the color I wanted but that was a bad idea so I ended up having to make a second tail right away! So if the local fabric store doesn't have anything that really interests you, try Spandexworld.com. :)
Have you decided on a monofin yet or do you already have one?
Welcome to the MerNetwork! We are excited to have you :)

I want to machine sew it because i think it would be faster and better stitch, I don't know if i got four way stretch but it seems durable and stretches both ways (i think). I will defiantly look at that thank you so much!
I have not but I have 2 in mind, the one from fin fun and http://www.bonanza.com/items/search?q[search_description]=1&q[search_term]=Mahina%20Mermaid%20MerFin
I don't have the money for the fin so i have a bit to decide

You'll do fine :) Just remember to leave room for seams when you cute the fabric and also cut a little larger than you think. Much easier to take something in than to let it out.

I used a sewing machine for my tails it is pretty easy once you get the hang of it and fun too! If the fabric isn't 4 way stretch you can still make due with 2 way, you just have to have it so that it will stretch horizontally and not vertically I think.

I would not know how to do that, I have semi limited resources here because no one here has sewn a mermaid tail. But I am trying my best and asking for people who know how to sews help. I have never really sewn but i know if I keep at this i will have a tail. Do you know how to tell between 2 way and 4 way and how i go about making sure its horizontal?

2-way fabric will stretch if you pull it from the sides, but not if you pull it from the top and bottom. 4-way will stretch if you pull if from the sides and also if you pull it from the top and bottom.

There were two main tutorials that I used for making my tails:
This video I used the most:

Then this tutorial mainly gave me an idea of what stitching to use and it covers about the same stuff as the video:
