View Full Version : Fin Fun Mermaid not THE Fin Fun that we all know.

Heyo! Came across this while doing late night googling...
They are located in Finland. A bit pricey but super beautiful tails, and unfortunately having the same name as the American Fin Fun.

I really like the printed 3d tails and the bikini, even though I don't wear bikinis!

I would not trust that site, there are red flags all over it. The site name, the "Mermaidens Collection", their videos, and even their monofins are all from the real Fin Fun. And then there are news posts where they claim to be Mertailor for some reason. On top of all of that, I couldn't find anywhere where they ask for sizes, not even if you want an adult or children's tail.

That's a pretty sketchy site... Which is a shame because the tails look nice. But who knows what things are like being the scenes.

Ugh, what a shame. :( The tailskins are gorgeous. I'm drooling over that "Sea Topas" (I guess they meant Topaz??) but there are soooo many red flags... No sizes, no actual info on the tails themselves, they just use the real Fin Fun's monofins, there's a blog post ripped off The Mertailor's site??? And Mermaid Melissa's videos???
When I first went to the website I got so distracted looking at the beautiful tail designs, but then the longer I stayed on the page and looked at everything else... The seedier the whole thing gets. It's like they ripped off a bunch of stuff from Fin Fun, Mertailor, Melissa... What a mess.
What a shame. They are gorgeous tails - among the best printed fabric that I've seen- but something is really fishy (heheh).
I didnt dwell long, but the monofins look exactly like Magictail's to me... I don't see a resemblance to Fin Fun in that sense. Maybe I'm missing something?
Edit: I scrolled down further to the childrens' tails and I see the Fin Fun monofins.
But look at the pictures. They're watermarked with a logo saying Delphina. What's this about?

Has anyone tried reverse image searching the pictures or anything? The tails look too legit to be actually from there. They must come from somewhere. That's just my thought. I'm not super in the tailmaker loop here. :P
Well if they're active id love to invite them to just share their experience. The tails are so pretty and I'm really hoping that they aren't a scam. It definitely looks like English isn't their first language, maybe they aren't meaning to make it look like the Mertailor posts and the things with Melissa and Magictail are theirs.

guys no. if you look under thier videos. they look exactly like the original finfuns and nothing like the tails they put on thier home page
if you're too lazy to go on thier site and check heres one of the videos they have

Anyone tried Emailing FinFun themselves? Maybe they know something.
On some of the new fin fun's pictures, they're watermarked with the official Fin Fun's logo.

Yeah this site doesn't make sense. I love the look of the tails, but on both blog intrees they re-use something from the mertailor such as this: "Thanks for visiting our website, www.themertailor.com (http://www.themertailor.com)! We are currently making the transition to our new website! Please excuse our dust while we are still adjusting a few things! " Pretty strange. Here is a link to that: http://finfun-mermaid.com/welcome-to-our-new-website/
I don't know if maybe they are affiliated with the main Fin Fun or not. I do know of instances where people will name their business the same or a very similar name to a very successful established business and get a very similar sounding website name so that they can steal customers. I am not saying this is what they are doing, but it is very confusing especially when I don't see anywhere on the site explaining if they are indeed related to the other Fin Fun.
I emailed Fin Fun to see if this site is affiliated with them. :) Now to wait and see what they say...

I don't know if we should spread the word around just yet. I doubt they are affiliated with the real Fin Fun, but just incase I am still going to wait on the real Fin Fun to reply to my email. Since it is the weekend the soonest I could get a reply from them would be Monday. Until then we can only guess.

They also sell Magictails and the original Fin Fun tails.
Hm. Website is a bit confusing... They say they started off selling basic tails that looked to me like Fin Fun's plain tails, then patterned ones from Magictail, then their new tails which are the current 3D printed tails. I wonder if the 3D tails belong to yet another company we don't know about.

I think we can safely say that there is nothing special about their "3D" printed tails. They are just 'printed' tails, like those tee shirts with the tuxedo printed on them. Nothing 3D about it.

this, absolutely.
I don't find them goodlooking in the least, each to their own, but 3D means third dimension, and not "fancy print that gives depth illusion" as they say (and which I failed to recognize, looks like completely off-the-mill scaleprint).

Okay so just a few things, at least on the tails I was looking at they were all marked with a "Delfina" watermark above the fin fun one. Is that part of their brand? I tried looking up things like 'delfina mermaids' 'delfina tails' or 'delfina mermaid tails' but didn't find anything helpful. Second if you look at some of their photos closely their scale print is definitely a FinFolk rip off. Thirdly... I want one of these so badly! But am afraid of being ripped off so maybe later haha.
I want one of these so badly! But am afraid of being ripped off so maybe later haha.
Right? I love how different they are - printed fins, an explosion of bold colors - but its just so sketchy.
Anyways, they're hella expensive. Nearly $300 for the larger looking tails.

Side note/ back on topic I did send them an email asking about adult sizes, apparently they are available:
"We have sizes
9-11 years
11-15 years
15 years and older.
The size of the adults is to 180 cm tall, hip circumference up to 115 cm."
Look guys I think I'm gonna take one for the team here and order one to scope them out. Maybe not right now because I did just order a fabric tail from a local seller and I have to pay to get my sewing machine back, but in like a couple of weeks or so? Uhm, located in here...? I've been mermaiding here for a long time (krhm, well like 1 year as a pro XD) but this is reeeeeally small country and news get around faster you can imagine, so this is also a one more red flag for this.
But on the side note, if this is real thing it would be super-amazing to have a local fabric tail seller :)

I also tried to google in finnish, nothing. Seilorinkatu 1 seems to be a storage building so that would fit, but we have hear soooo strict policies with businesses, that they would have needed to register in our "businessknowledgecontrolsystem" I don't even know what it is in English... And if they are Finnish company, why they don't have a single word in Finnish in their site. :S

So, I did a whoooole lot of digging this morning (yes it's 6am here and I was very bored)
Everything in this does not add up so I would recommend not to spread a word, not to advertise it, do not purchase from this site. I mean it's all a big mess..
There should be no exporters/re-sellers of THE finfun in Finland. I know this because I contacted Shelly and applied to be a re-seller in mid July and there were no competition then.
In this "company" there's a russian area code in their phone number (no search results when doing google or local mobile search), prices and website in dollars/_poor_english, no info of materials, poor sizing info, location in Finland.. on the bright side though the products seem to be real.
It doesn't have any company number which is a must have and needs to be always visible in sh*t associated with your company. EVERYTHING runs through the company number. This doesn't have one or one that I can find. Usually they are pretty easy to find. The address locates to Helsinki Port. Our customs are almost in the exact same address. That area also has lots of storage areas of diff companies. Seems legit, but the address they give you on their website seems to belong to another company (Scanroad Finland Oy) that HAS a legit company number. Maybe this is the company behind all this that imports all the goods? Maybe.
The company mentioned has a link to Russia, other than just the phone number, but also trasport vise. The company has LOTS of russian features as we like to call them (I've been working in the field of trade for over 5 years now close to Russian border, we deal with these daily..) only four peeps registered as employees/company member with over 900 000e turnover. It has a history from 2010 with over 700 000e turnover with 0 employees/company members in that year (note: registered in Finland). Yeah...
Plus bonus round, they have VK (russian facebook) in their social media contacts so.. My personal opinion, I bet my dorsal it's a russian hoax.. uh sorry uh russian origin company *grin*
Even IF they sell these goods and manage to deliver, the company looks very fishy. Guess it's just their way of doing business (in some cases sadly).. Or just that they have "opened" 10.7.2015. But I'd go with the first one. Who wants to try and see :D
And have to say this don't want to be negative nancy but the design is a finfolk rip off
...Also never heard of Delfina monofin? *searches*
Oookhaaaaay so when I searched it this one came up http://delfinamermaid.com/
Same stuff just under different name, address is slightly diff (like next door the previous one diff).
WTH?

Maybe you shouldn't. Don't forget, it is nearly $300 for a printed FABRIC tail. And the cost by the time you do the currency conversion, you prob can just buy another basic silicone tail! Or lots of Magictails or Fin Funs or whatever else!

Yeah I'm still thinking about it, I haven't bought one yet but checked it out and they have paypal as a payment option, so worst case scenario I can always get my money back (if the shipping was taking even close to 180 days I'd be asking for a refund before then). It does sound really sketchy I will admit, I just wish we could find the proper site for these! They are clearly a real product, just dodgy looking sellers :(

Well, I for one got a bit confused, when the review page went up for Delfina this morning. The website was not the Indiana domestic one. The problem is that I really like the tail design on the Finnish/Russian site. I swapped back and forth between the two, then decided to take the risk (before reading this thread.) The price did not seem that different. Especially if the swimsuit is included. Not sure how long the shipping from Finland/Russia might take. Or even if the L size (15+) will fit.
It does set off alarm bells. I probably should cancel the paypal and order, yet I remain curious as the cat. (*)
I am traveling this weekend. (The hotel has wifi) So on the drive up here, I keep thinking about what I was going to post on these forums (Before I found this thread) I see that the "Mermaid tails buy" did send a confirmation email. The payee, however did have a Cyrillic name on what appears to be a German domain (ojooo dot com.) Now I am not the least xenophobic, My brother's first wife was Russian/Ukranian from the Crimea area. I suspect that there are people who want to reach a worldwide audience, but do not always have the means to be a multinational. Especially the younger members of society.
Working in the Silicon Valley I have had a number of friends who were from places like Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden etc. I suspect that Russia has a mermaid economy too.
Now I am perfectly capable of making a fabric tail, with a polycarbonate monifin, Like the one I used at my brother's pool. What tipped me to order something this morning the review updates as noted above. Question is why is the FinFun US Domestic/Indiana not included in the review or tail makers thread? While I have been reading these forums for sometime. It is quite easy for important info to be buried in the volumes of postings here. (Which is a good thing as I am addicted to information overload.)
(*)At work I had thrown away a lamp zip cord (also known as a suicide cord as it has bare wire ends.) The cat was fixated on staring at it in the wastebasket. Cats really are attracted to things that are probably not good for them.

Haven't read through this whole thread, but I know people are getting really freaked out because Delfina has two websites- one with the finfun-mermaid address and one with delfinamermaid address. Now, sure, using FinFun in your website is riding off of the success of the American FinFun company. But it doesn't automatically mean they're a scam. It's actually really smart. There's a whole market of people buying typo'ed urls to redirect to a different company with similar products. Companies have started buying typo'ed urls for themselves to prevent it actually.
Also don't forget FinFun bought mermaidtails.net (previously a site for listing tailmakers) because that url had SO many backlinks that it's the first thing that comes up when you search for mermaid tails. That was also a smart business move. Does that mean they're sketchy too? Just sayin ;)
That also makes sense because finfun-mermaid.com is in USD, when the delphinamermaid is in Euros. They want to reach an international market, and I say doing both of those things adds up to a pretty smart move for business success! Both sites link to the delphina FB page and YouTube (not FinFun's).
FinFun isn't the first, and won't be the last to make a polycarbinate home made fin with a neoprene coating. Heck there were meres making those long before FinFun came out with them! The shape is also popular because it doesn't lead to cracks in the center and it's easy to cut. I mean, it's not rocket science. "3D" printed tails have also been on the rise for a long time cause they're cheap and they're pretty.
Just the same, I'll be contacting Delphina to confirm that the finfun-mermaid site is also their site. If it isn't, I'll be sure to let you know.
When in doubt, only order through secure means with buyer protection- like PayPal. If you don't get the tail before the 180 days are up, dispute the charge on PayPal. You'll get your money back. If you have to do this just please let us know.

Interesting, that link does not come up when the forum search is used. Looks like it is Fun Fun with two words. Site Search says those terms too common. I did find it scrolling down the list. So much for careful planning. As my friend one said, If that was a snake it would have bit you.

If you follow links from that page to facebook you end up at "delfina mermaids" page. If you follow that to their website, its actually a delfina mermaid website, selkingnot the fin-fun one, selling the same tails from the UK. Not good. Not sure what to do next. Checking the USPS tracking number this morning I get
USPS Tracking™ is unavailable for this product for RUSSIAN FEDERATION. with NOT FOUND in big red bold letters.
For the last few weeks this has resulted in "preparing for shipment."
Now I need to figure out the order I contact. Do I start with the Paypal/Credit card? USPS (it was supposedly sent registered mail.) Or attempt to contact the seller, who does not seem to handle English well.
Still bummed about the cat that was killed this last weekend too.

You have 45 days from payment to file a claim (they say 45 or 180 but I'd do the shorter timeframe). It's already been 14 days so you have 31 days
I ask because shipping anything from Russia to the US can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month depending on customs.
Call USPS and inquire about the situation, then use official paypal communication with the seller so you have a paper trail.
I'm sorry you're tail isn't here, and sorry about your cat *hugs*

Guess what was at home delivered by the mail person today? I must have panicked too soon, seeing the Not found on the USPS tracking this morning. Guess it was "not found" as it was out for delivery. I was sort of looking forward to watching the progress. Now it is actually here. I was and still am really surprised. Perhaps cats do go to heaven and Kitty-Boy was able to grant a miracle.
While I was tempted to take an unboxing video, I am a bit old for that. I did take some photographs of the box. I am told the mailman had a hard time reading the labels. It did come from Moscow. There was a note inside written in the same bad English, that repeated what I posted. There was an additional funny line "We will be very glad if you put a good estimate of our store!" I guess that means they want a good review. Full review will have to wait until I have tried it on and had a swim with it. I did try on the monofin (wearing it now) while it is a bit snug it does fit. Will be interesting to see how it is to put on wet.

does it come with fabric bracers? that's awesome!
Do you mean the wrist gauntlet thingys? I think of braces as what the English call suspenders (which are used for holding mens pants and heavy ladies hoop skirts up with.)
The included letter says "Take a gift from us special membrane for swimming. It is fashionable and convenient accessory to suit mermaid."
One reason I picked this over the real Fin Fun was the included swimsuit. I think the price was about the same. (and that Fin Fun was out of stock on the red scarlet tail)
The kit came with tail. monofin (I removed that for the photo and to try it on) bikini top and bottom and the gauntlets.

I hope you mean the tail fits? not the teeth. Yes the tail fits pretty well. I am actually wearing the whole outfit as I post this. Do others post as they really are?

Pretty tail color! What is the monofin like? To me, looks like the old Fin Fun one.

The monofin seems to be a sheet of polycarbonate. There are elastic foot pockets covered by a black spandex fabric. Apart from the borrowed tail in my avatar, which was similar (although I think the covering fabric was green) I have no comparison. I think that was a fin fun, but it could have been any massed produced tail. I am not much of one for selfies, but I am having fun trying this on so here goes. Probably would be better to use a selfie stick. But I can not swim upstairs to get one.

Wow! I'm just blown away! After all the research and all signs pointing to a huge red flag, this, I really wasn't expecting this :D but I'm so glad like I said before that everything went well with your order! That's the most important thing! :)
I think me and Nerissa have to pay them a visit since they are located here. That would be interesting

I'm so glad your tail came! I hope it swims well.
I've had the same problem when I order stones from india. When I check the tracking, it's always 'unavailable' and then it shows up on my doorstep.

Oooh so pretty! Seriously considering putting this on my Christmas list this year! I can't wait for the full review! How long did it take to arrive from the time you ordered it and also which size did you order? When they describe a large as 15 years and up, is that the adult size? Also, is the fabric a nice thickness, like not see through? Sorry for all the questions... I just think this tail is so pretty!

Don't know who this mermaid is, but she has the neon pink tail, Cariba.

Hmm... Is it just me or does the dorsal fin on this tail, look like lady parts?

That is the real question? Where are they really located? The package came from Moscow. Other than that website there is no indication of any connection to Finland.

From click to arrival about 4 weeks. I ordered the L 15 and up size.
When they describe a large as 15 years and up, is that the adult size?
I wear between a US Womans size 10 and Size 12. (Depending on the cut.) I guess that would be a size 11, which is not standard in the shops. I would say that the size would fit a small adult. I am tall and thin. There is quite a bit of stretch to the fabric. I would not recommend it for a stout person.
Also, is the fabric a nice thickness, like not see through?
The fabric is quite thin. Much thinner that the borrowed tail in my avatar. You can see some light through it when held up to a sunny window. The printing is quite nice and detailed.
The extra fins are printed on. Probably why Mermaid Jaffa might see some Pareidolia in the dorsal fin printing. There is a lot of color in the pattern with the scales hinted in white. The stitching is done by industrial machine. I have not seen a Magictail to compare.
There are a lot of warnings not to rub the fabric on rough surfaces. It will be interesting to see how it holds up to actual use in my brother's pool. And when I can get some time to test it out there.
The packaging was heat sealed plastic wrap. Colorful instruction cards duplicate the info on the websites with QR codes that probably link back to same. They are actively soliciting social networking participation. I do feel that they need better language skills to be taken seriously.
A better website name and more accurate location would be in order. While I had luck with this (and I believe in shared luck.) I would still advise the buyer to beware. Sites like this could fold as easily as they pop up if the sales and inventory have problems.

Thanks so much, Mersheep! I really wish that a more established company (like the original Fun Fin company). Would offer tails with the printed extra fins- they are too cute!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/272056468684?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 The colors are amazing on these mermaid tails. These tails are available on EBay, with or without a Fin Fun Pro monofin. . If anyone wants the Lime tail (skin only) in adult, I accidentally bought it in a adult size for Kayla thinking it would only be a little larger than the teen size. Because it comes from Russia I won't be returning it but if anyone wants to buy it from me I will be selling it WITHOUT a monofin as pictured here for $85 plus postage the same price that is on EBay. Anything bought from them at this point could not be guaranteed delivery by Christmas or the NC Mer-Mania event. The lime skin and the great bathing suit I will resell (without a monofin) for $85 and if it's not sold by the time I go to NC Mer-Mania. I will bring it with me. I'm not sure how they hold up living in the Northeast US it hasn't been in the water.
