Raven did an excellent job fixing my orange tail up for me, but wow I feel like it needs another lift! But here's an option for anyone who bought a tail that doesn't fit or has issues, Thom can fit it for you. Also 2500 for a dry costumed tail (high quality) is pretty good considering it be from the master!

New status from today. Looks like he's been getting some tails made with ALEX!.... Just goes to show you we aren't crazy and professional tail makers have used the stuff in the past, even if they aren't using it now!

I was just about to do this. That was indeed the issue with my tails

That is wonderful of him! If I can't get ahold of Mike (or if he's to busy) I might ask Thom to make a couple tweaks to my tail. NOTE: I bought it used so it's not an issue of quality just not built for me ^_^ By the way where did you guys see this? [link?]

Well, that's it, the deal is off from where I said I would back off attacking Eric. I said as long as he doesnt attack ANY tail maker I would keep my powder dry. I knew he couldn't do it though. His narcissistic personality disorder just won't let him. What a completely awful piece of shit he is.

Cue his sock puppet coming on here any second now to defend him, three....two.....

I found Thom's status had a bit of a tone to it as well but still...

Also what is he talking about- Urethane tails?

Mermaid Sirena
01-23-2012, 03:54 PM
Well hold on it could be hard trying to adjust to being pleasant, I would say give him 24 hours to remove it to show that he is trying to change his impulse's. Other wise, I guess have at it. Just a thought ^_^

What is Urethane?

AniaR
01-23-2012, 03:55 PM
Thom posted on his personal page not a public fan page. Also, Thom has been fixing tails and he's explaining now why people are having so many of the same issues. I mean, we knew this is true with my tail. It's not neoprene, and it's not real latex. Though, this is the SECOND time Eric's posted about sleeping bag tails. Before came before thoms post. I had mentioned this in the dramatic post about not doing that.

I personally am not huge on the baggy looks of the tails, but they are rental ones not customed made, and not bought. Everyone knows Thom is the inventor of commercial tails. People made them before him, but not commercially.

Mermaid Shelly
01-23-2012, 03:58 PM
Urethane are what Thom's tails are made out of... so looks like someone is going to try and rip off his technique. Nice. And professional too! And from my experience working in extrusion labs in the medical device industry, he better get a chemical engineering degree because its not easy to work with ;) Good luck!

Thom is digging at others just as bad, if Thom isn't ready to take the crap he throws out he shouldn't open his mouth about other tail makers. That entire statement was about Mike Van Daal, Eric and every other tail maker out there. And Thom is not the granddaddy of them all, he was apart of a TEAM that created the splash tail, he did not do it by himself. A TEAM! (Information from a source that was ON THAT TEAM OF CREATORS!) I know one of the members on the team and have worked with him.

Before he decides to "fix" other peoples tails he needs to fix his own first. The pedestal everyone puts him on is just ridiculous! I have no problem saying whose tails I like and dislike! I LOVE Eric's and Mike's tails! They are both GORGEOUS! Other than them I have not seen a tail maker I have liked! Thom's tails are loose and have a mono tone and mediocre paint job to them. They have no personality, over priced (you shouldn't pay more for less), and they just don't look that good to me. The best ones are always photoshopped, with any company, no exceptions! Behind the scene photos of Charmed show the truth, the tail is gorgeous in the commercials, but behind the scenes, it's nothing special.

I'm being disrespectful of Thom I am just stating my opinion, which is what this forum is for.

-Merman Matty

P.s. And Chris I hope we never meet in person because you have another thing coming. That's not a physical threat, but I will give you a piece of my mind and trust me when i say this, you won't like it. So don't "Let your powder dry" and just for an FYI for moderators and such, Chris said himself that he was "attacking" Eric so something needs to be done about that. Thank you.

MermanMatty

Right on cue. Lol.

I don't think Mike Van Daal ever used acrylic caulk, I don't know of any other tailmakers that do.... And I don't think Thom was digging. He was letting people know that there are tailmakers out there that use things not suitable for water, while advertising his product in place for those kinds of tails. The only reason to take offense is if you are one of the people using that crap!

And don't even get me started on photoshop, matty. My tail (and a lot of others that I have seen in person) looks nothing like what was advertised on his website.

Yeah, there was an orange tail I was looking at for when I first ordered mine. It was actually melissa's pink tail photoshopped

Shelly is it really that chemically dangerous/difficult to work with :O

It totally is! :|

In regards to thom's posts, he doesn't single out any one tail maker, but he points out that the tails people have sent him to fix find their main issue is they're not made of neoprene. Mine sure as heck isnt. Neither was Marlas.

Um, yeah. "Matty".

Listen up little poser boy. The vast majority of folks here, going back to the Yuku days, do not want you here. We all know that if not acting as Eric's sock puppet, you are likely taking dictation from him, hence why no one takes you seriously. I could care less what piece of your shrill little mind you want to give me. Step up to me and open your mouth, and you will find a fist in it. As I said before, you are virtually nobody in this community. Just because you blow Eric does not make you a merman.

See, I could care less if I get banned from here for whatever. I have many, many friends in this community that extends FAR beyond this forum. However, if Iona and Malinghi want peace here, they really should be banning YOU. Eric is banned, and all you are is his mouthpiece anyway. Just a boy toy without an original thought or opinion of his own. What do you add to the community? Absolutely nothing. As a matter of fact, I personally no longer enjoy the forum much BECAUSE of your presence here.

And I am very glad to hear you are not threatening me physically, because it would be a big mistake on your part. You have no idea who I am....where I have been....or what I am capable of.

Added: I deleted your private message to me unread because it does not matter. My inbox, and indeed using my name, is for FRIENDS, most decidedly of which you are NOT.

I know one of the members on the team and have worked with him.Maybe a difference of opinions but I think in terms of commercial, retail tail-making, the label is valid.

Can you seriously tell me Eric didn't draw any inspiration from Thom in his early career? If only in terms of what was possible?

Can you seriously tell me Eric didn't draw any inspiration from Thom in his early career? If only in terms of what was possible?

There was a whole older interview where Eric explained he used to talk to Thom and learn about making tails. Mika cited it in one of the older threads. I remember reading it, but the link was taken down.

I think this is silly for two tail makers to fight back and forth like this. NO OTHER TAIL MAKERS have public issues. Mike, Mermagica, Aquatails, Mermaid creations, Shell Labs, Dr Seaweed, The German Tail Makers, and the list goes on and on and on. Can't we just start working together to make the community a better place instead of always being at each other's throats?

Actually Matt Eric worked at weeki wachee, that's what inspired him, not Thom. Weeki is the real origin of mermaids for him. :) Mermaids since 1946 :)

And Chris you pulled the gay card, congratulations :) Now you've upgraded yourself to a biggot! :) And FYI Eric's penis has nothing to do with anything we are discussing, your fantasies are none of my business, I'm gay too I have no place to judge. Little man syndrome... it seems to be happening more and more these days... :( I'm sorry Chris I'll be the bigger man ;) and wave my white flag. Have fun :)

Oh yes, even for an easy cast mold there is lots to mix and balances to get right. And adding pigments would only make it more difficult. Thom's tails are a feat of engineering and he should be praised for it. I would never dare to attempt such a process because you would need to mold each person and the equipment alone would get very, very expensive. Thus, the price, but well worth it if that is what you are looking for. They are pretty indestructible! http://www.ehow.com/how_7379187_diy-urethane-casting.html

I mentioned a fact; how does that make me a bigot? (by the way, it's spelled with one g).

Sorry buddy, you're way off base here. I could care less about anyone's gender and have a good number of gay friends. Just stating a fact; you sleep with a tailmaker, and voila you're a merman all of a sudden. Of course. Just like an actress on the casting couch.

BOTH OF YOU ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Chris and Matty, you hate each other. We understand this, I don't give a whales tail that you two hate each other. What I do care about is that you are both taking your personal drama and making it public in a very unprofessional and immature manor. I am sick of the name calling and I am sick of the put downs. I am not the only one who is tired of watching a couple of grown men act like a couple of pubescent teenagers.

Chris you say Matty should be banned because of everything he says and so on and so forth, well honestly lately the only times you have been posting are in regards to Mertailor and causing the majority of the drama.

Cue his sock puppet coming on here any second now to defend him, three....two.....
Really? If that's not looking for drama and calling out public then frankly I don't know what is. Right now you are acting no better then the man you claim to hate and frankly with these posts you aren't making friends either. You are a tail maker as well and everything you say and do will be reflected onto your products, that's the way the world works. Thats how it works for Mertailor and that's how it works for you. Look back at your posts and can you honestly say you want those to be the image people are left with for you and your tails?

The fact that you also do not even want to attempt to do any of this out of the public eye leads me to feel you want this to be a public battle so everyone can take your side and you can say look at what a "little poser boy" he is. If you did all of this privately which is where this belongs I wouldn't give a single damn. But you insist on having this be public which is immature.

Also dragging someones personal life into a situation and their relationships is bottom of the barrel, this goes for you as well Matty.

And I feel sorry for Shelly having to deal with you. It must take ENORMOUS amounts of patience to deal with you! So much anger in such a little man! It's crazy!

But have fun. And so what if I just became a merman, Shelly just became a tail maker, that doesn't make her a professional.

Dragging Chis's and Shelly's relationship into this also low and pointless, also attacking Shelly's professionalism only helps negate any credibility your words have. You say you are apart of the community yet the only times you ever post is when it's in regards to Mertailor, why don't you post on the other forums and topics. You say you don't feel apart of this community well it doesn't look like you've tried to be apart of it either.

From where I'm standing either the both of you need to resolve this, move this to private message, OR BOTH GET BANNED. Because right now the only ones causing all this huge drama are you two. Sure someone else mentioned what Mertailor posted but the two of you have taken this to a whole other level.

I am sick and tired of both of you and your stupid, immature war.

Both of you grow up!

I would say I'm sorry if you don't like this, but I'm not. I'm also certain that I'm going to catch hell for this but frankly at this point I don't give a damn.

The Mertailor Eric Ducharme, ladies and gentlemen! Calling out the granddaddy of them all.

Hahaha, of course he deleted his post (but at least he regretted it)! He is making fun of tails made of urethane, and now planning on making tails out of urethane? How... interesting. I wish him luck with that process. :/

"Considering discontinuing latex line" is interesting when he never used latex in the first place (caulking on fabric covered foam).

Calling them "sleeping bags?" Yeah, only when someone is wearing them who they weren't made for (i.e. generic sizes for rentals). When it is customized, the tails (both ACTUAL molded latex for "dry tails" and molded urethane for "wet tails") are beautiful works of art that need minimal photo-shopping. The qualities of the materials alone are what make the prices higher, but will ensure your tail won't disintegrate. I have also seen beautiful customized paint jobs on tails.

@Chris and @Matty: Stop it. Quit it. Alto. Knock it off. Your Ad-hominem attacks are a waste of space on these forums and bring an unparalled level of unprofessionalism to the mermaid community.

Thom learned this technique while making prostheses while working in the medical industry. He is definitely qualified to use urethane. Working with caulking from home depot on the other hand would not be enough experience.

Holy Crap! I am glad I missed all of this! Raina, I am with you for a Drinks and Dinner meet up... or a ropes course or Mud Run, that brings people together. :)

I looked at urethane and it is super expensive and not meant for home use. I wouldn't be willing to work with the stuff with out a chemistry degree and maybe some has-mat training LOL

Good on Thom for helping and offering to fix others tails. It is a good business move and makes him look great! I have a friend that has already dropped off her tail with him for repairs. I can't wait to see how it comes out!

Closing this thread until I can contact Malinghi and discuss. I don't even know what to say right now. Really disappointed in you guys- Chris and Matt I'll be limiting your posting access to outside of review and commercial tails categories, since those topics are the ones that always end in a fire fight. I think it's clear this is both of your hot button topics. Seeing as people are leaving and saying they don't even want to post on here any more because of drama, limiting accounts for now is more than fair.
