Hello everybody! I am new to the world of mermaiding and here is a little about me. It was at the beginning of this year when I first got interested in Mermaids. I had a dream about one on Jan. 19th and then two months later had a second dream with the very same mermaid. Since then mermaids became a little obsession of mine. Seeing photos of people swimming in mermaid tails really got me interested. I searched around and read different information about things and I found this site.

Last week I tried swimming to practice the dolphin kick using dive fins. It took me about ten minutes before I got it right. It was really exhausting and I kept running out of breath. I don't have a tail yet, but I did make a monofin by zip-tying the dive fins together. When I tried them today, they did work pretty good. Sadly only been able to swim in a designated swimming area of the state park and it’s not very deep at all. My swimming locations around here are limited to a pond, river, beach, and icy cold springs. Being a redhead I normally avoid swimming and long sun exposure, but I guess if I want to be a mermaid, I need to start bathing in sunscreen first. :p

I been thinking about buying a Mahina MerFin now and maybe an Eco tail later. Can’t decide which one to get first. When I get better at swimming and save up the money, I shall buy a really good quality tail.

Hello! I'm new as well, as far as getting into the mer-community on the Internet! Its never too late to fall in love with being a mermaid. I used to have this bright, long, fire-red hair I dyed once every three to four months, because my job allows me to have whatever color hair I want. I loved the way it looked, but I hated the maintenance and not being able to get into Chlorinated pool for a certain amount of time after dying it. Having naturally red hair must be awesome though, despite having to avoid the sun. How did you manage to zip-tie dive fins together like that?? Post pictures of it, I'm super interested because that sounds cool and I am curious how it works!

I don't think it would work with all dive fins, but it did with this kind.

I started out with strapped together fins too. I do have a warning that sometimes they can put your feet at strange angles and make it harder or even painful to swim for a long time. For starting out though they can give you a good idea of what you're looking for in a fin.
I've never worn an eco tail before, but I can say that my Mahina has been a great purchase for me. It's large enough to custom shape and is strong enough to use in a neoprene tail.
