So thanks to my Fabulous Fiance I am in the process of ordering a tail from MerrowFins.:yay:
I sent Matt the request a few weeks ago as well as the kind of color scheme i'm interested in and Now i'm just waiting for him to get back to me.
I'm so excited to finally have a new tail and i can just can't wait to start collaborating on it

Prince Calypso, this is super-exciting! I'm also quite sure I'm going to order from them when I have all the funds, so I'm definitely going to follow this thread and your ordering process with a huge interest!

Trident True, he was. I don't know much about what happened, only things I've read, but Matt was one of the main designer behind those designs which Mertailor uses, f.ex. leaf and pirate flukes. As far as I've understood they are now two separate, individual tail businesses with an agreement of both sides(don't know how to say it properly in english).

Yeah, essentially they broke up and Matt now helps run a separate company. That's all I know (and probably all anyone needs to know).

OK so sorry its taken me so long to get back to this, but thus is the life of an over worked college student *laughter that turns into silent sobs*

Anyway Matty and i finally came to a final design mock up for my tail.
I'm getting one of the Fabric/Sicone tails (which is pretty much the same thing as the Mertailor's basic silicone tail according to Matt)

here's the design that I oringally came up with for myself.

I wanted a color gradient effect from like a reddish/ purple to purple then to black at the tips of the fins. mainly because the colors matched my hair at the time I came up with the design lol

Its a lot darker than my original design but I still love it. I wanted to go with something a bit more dark and "siren" like
though I may ask him to make the black a bit more subtle with abit more reddish/purple idk though cause.

So hopefully the tail will be ordered here soon. There were a few unforeseen issues with my Fiance's finances but we're only $200 shy of the price tag, something he has promised he is working on so I'm not gonna harp on him...Much.
I'm honestly so excited and anxious I can't stand it

Matts absolutely amazing. I went down to see him and he measured me himself and drew a template of my measurements then had me lay on it to make sure it lined up. Then he drew out my fluke full size and made it exactly how I wanted it. Then we took my old tail and we all went swimming so he could see what was wrong with it and he kept it after I left, he resized it and fixed it all up perfectly for the mermaid that bought it. And the money he made off of it went to the making of my new tail! I am not in the least bit worried about how this tail is going to turn out. I watched him paint a tail and saw his scale patterns and I'm convinced that his tails are going to be absolutely incredible! He is absolutely talented!

I'm so glad you posted that. I'm about to send out a money order. This is only going by word of mouth here and the photos posted, but there's always a little faith relied upon when going with someone branching off on his own. That's so reassuring.

So we sent off the Money order a few days ago, but it still hasn't arrived in Florida
I've checked how long it should take for a letter from California to reach Florida and it should be any where between 2 to 7 days
so hopefully it will be showing up tomorrow on the 11th or the 12th
if not both my husband and whatever postal service h used are getting a piece of my mind, the piece with a bad temper and fangs to be precise
Talked to Matt and he said he would inform me the instant it came in and start working the moment he had my measurements. so fingers and fins crossed

I've only seen the unrestored flukes, I think I like yours a lot more! I'm liking all of his designs, though some of his scale sheets and find look a little rough. Your colors are gorgeous though, I can't wait to see it with all the little details added in.

yeah the scale and fin sheets could be perfected a bit cause they do come out the mold a bit rough
but having had my first tail from Fishbutts i can tell you this will be a massive improvement

thank you, I wanted something that was extremely unique to me and also something dark and Matt worked my colorscheme out perfectly, even if it wasn't originally what i wanted exactly, I'm still super excited to see the final product

I think they're new things for him, I mean Matt. Fins crossed by the time I have enough saved, he has refined his techniques and the tails won't look so noobish.

Ok so Update fishes!

so Matt has been just a darling through the whole process of getting my tail worked out even when i asked for some last minute alterations to make the tail kind of pop.
there was a issue with a small imperfection in the tail that Matt gave me two options for. either scrap the whole thing and restart the tail or he'd give me a free dorsalfin to cover it. I of course opted for the free dorsal fin.

there was a small period of time where i hadn't heart from Matt but i found out it was because a few people he knew were involved in the Orlando shooting.
but we talked finally and i told him how sorry i was. Matt was very professional about it and even offered to pay the shipping and handling price for my tail for it taking so long
so tail has been shipped out and i will be posting pictures as soon as it gets here.

It's probably just pending because it hasn't been approved by the admins yet. They had an influx of suspicious reviews a few years ago so now they check to make sure they look legit before they become public (just making sure photos are provided, it's been swam in, numbers check out, it's not just a new user posting a fake positive review to boost a tailmaker's score, etc.

So My mermaid tail came in this morning.
It took me a minute to realize what the UPS man was handling me cause I had just woken up and when I did I was omg!!!

I really do love this tail and Matt was such a sweetheart throughout the entire process, from design to completions.
He even added a dorsal fin free of charge and paid the shipping in handling for it which was such a big favor because most of my cash is tried up in my wedding right now.
though the design is not exactly what I originally wanted it grew on me from the moment Matt sent me the concept design
though I do wish it was a bit more purple but that's not that big of a deal.
the tail has a few imperfections however.
The tail is tight lol. not so tight that i can't fit into it but still tight.
its kinda my fault lol
I measured for the tail to be tight before knowing that Matt makes his tails to be tight
so now it double tight lol
it took me almost 5 minute to get in and out of the tail
The scales are very rough in some places and there are also small globs of silicone here and there that make sit look like the tail has skin-tags

Another issue is the fluke. Firstly its not asymmetrical. One side looks similar to the flukes from the mermaids in Pirates of The Caribbean, and the other half looks a little like Ariel's fluke lol
secondly there is a spot on the fluke where it looks like a glob of silicone that was painted came off leaving a black spot.

I also would have preferred a bit more purple in the color scheme for the tail but all and all its still beatiful in it sown way.
Overall I am extremely Happy with my tail. Yeah it has a few flaws but honestly it just matches its owner lol
even with its imperfections. I paid around 550$ for a basic silicone tail and I feel like I got exactly what I paid for.
Alot of the time I feel people order tails that are under 1000 bucks and expect over 100 quality and then get upset over it
I would happily order from Matt again.
