I searched and searched but I couldn't find a post about this; I want to put my Mahina merfin in my carry-on luggage for a flight from England to Mallorca. Folded in half, it fits in my carry-on bag. Am I going to encounter problems in security having it in a carry-on instead of checked?(I'm not bringing a checked bag)

I've never traveled out of my own country, but I've brought my fin fun monofin as a carry-on on two different airlines, and everything went smoothly. That's my experience anyway.
Have fun in Mallorca! :)

You shouldn't have a problem. If they ask, just tell them it's a costume. I travel regularly with strange camera equipment and costumes and I've never had a problem. As long as they can identify it and know it isn't dangerous, you should be ok. The only thing to be aware of is to make sure it's well cleaned before the flight. When I went from India -> New Zealand -> back to the states, I had to make sure the mud on my climbing shoes was completely cleaned off so there would be no contamination from one ecosystem to another.

My friend travelled with her tail in hand luggage and it was fine. I was REALLY hoping to stick to hand luggage but no way my tail will fit. It JUST fits in a large suitcase and it's still folded really tight. :( I'm going to look into somehow insuring my tail for travel as I hate the idea of putting it in the hold for a flight....wonder who'll insure a mermaid tail?

My Competitor came in the day before vacation, so I had absolutely no way of bringing it aside from putting it back in the box and manually carrying it through the airport. It looked... suspicious? So the TSA checked the box on all three flights I went on. It was a nerve-wracking process but as far as I believe, no harm was done to my fin.

For those with a Competitor or other large monofin in their tails, putting it into a box is an option. If you pack it tight and fold in the foot straps, it should NOT count as over sized luggage (I fly Virgin America) as far as I know.

This is generally speaking for large fins. In your case, you should be fine. I know Mahina's are bigger, but not too huge. As long as you are comfortable carrying it, it should not be a big deal :)
