Dorsal fin questions

I'm sorry if I'm not posting this in the right place.... Please let me know if it needs to be moved. :)

But I was curious what everyone has to say about dorsals? It seems to me like they'd sustain a substantial amount of stress - dry events, general sitting, getting the tail on and off, etc. I didn't order one on my tail (partially because of fear of it getting ripped or worn, and partially because just getting the tail broke the bank LOL), but I'm curious what you mers think! :)

Has anyone experienced any inconvenience with dorsals (or regular fins for that matter), or have tips and tricks for preserving them?

I've never had a problem with my dorsal! No rips, no getting in the way, no discomfort from sitting on it, or anything like that. But mine lies to either side or flops around/flows up in the water, it isn't made to stick straight up. But Lorelei who recently got a tail from finfolk- her dorsal sands up and is thick- and she was having difficulty with getting her tail on and sitting on it comfortably. It looks really cool though! Pros and cons and all that ;)
So I suppose it just depends on the size and thickness, and if it's sticking solidly straight up from the body or if it can flop around on it's own.

Other fins, I've only had an issue with my heel fin during a move when someone mishandled it. Heel fins are bound to get beaten up a little cause of where they are, but you just have to be aware of them, and be ready to make repairs if things happen. Like how Raina's fin got caught in a drain cover once. Gotta make sure not to drag you heels around (you shouldn't do that anyways, but still). Like I had a bum ankle this summer (wore a brace inside my tail and everything). I had to have help from mertenders here and there to lift my fluke, so I could reposition because my ankle didn't have the strength- otherwise I would have ripped those suckers a lot!

Pectorals you just have to make sure not to tug on them when you roll your tail down and put it on, but in my experience they're fairly out of the way. I've seen some tails with really long (beautiful) pectoral fins, you'd probably have to be more careful with those.

I've heard ankle fins can be incredibly in the way, especially if your tail is silicone. Raven stopped offering them for the most part for that reason, she said they're in the right spot to make getting the tail wrinkle out way worse and can lead to them ripping off.
