View Full Version : Feeling Sad about Mermaid Stuff

This is mainly a post for me to vent, because I don't have a whole lot of friends to talk to about mer-stuff. I really miss doing things with other mermaids, and the nearest ones to swim with live over an hour away. I got to the point where I brought a friend and one of my old fabric tails to the local YMCA so that I could teach her to swim in a tail (and have someone to swim with) but it's really not the same, you know? Idk, I just feel like I've phased myself out of the mermaid community where I was so involved not so long ago. It doesn't help that I haven't sold any tails, and I don't have a reliable workspace (other than my mom's garage). I feel like I'm not a good enough mermaid or something. *sigh*. Sorry for the post, I just feel like I need mermaids to talk to, and all of my far-off merfriends seem to be having these great adventures, and I can't even get a gig. *This isn't a post to make anyone feel bad. I just feel a bit lonely at the moment, ya know?*

Aww darling, I know how you feel. It's hard not to have any nearby mer friends to swim with and talk mermaid stuff.
As for your tailmaking and feeling sad, that's hard perhaps working on drawing up some new designs and experimenting with that kind of stuff would help you feel better.
Dont feel too sad, I hope you feel a little better soon :) <3

I really needed the Mulan quote :3
I think I just need to immerse myself back into the community. It will also make me feel much better when MerMania comes up (if I get to attend) knowing I'll have friends.

Maybe I can make some tiny tails or fins just to keep my mind off things?

I took a 5 year hiatus and came back to it. Whatever will help you reawaken your passion. :)
I was totally out of it for about a year, and I felt awful! I had posted a thread much like this one, and someone told me that the fact I went out of my way to talk to people means that being a mermaid is really important to me deep down and that I'll come back. Well, here I am a year later as much of a mermaid as ever!
So many mers go through this, you're not alone! If you need to, don't feel bad about taking a break for a while. We will all be back here waiting for you! <3

It is hard not having anyone to talk to about mer-stuff, though I have several friends who are curious. I have one acquaintance who has a fin fun, but she just tail swims. She isn't otherwise involved in the mer-community. So I can't rant off my head to her either.
Anyway, what everyone else said!
And Seaglass... ... ... *over excited tackle hug*
*applause*
That was a well placed Mulan quote.

Everyone feels "down" at one time or another. Know how you might feel. The flip side (poor pun) is: one can feel alone even among a crowd of people. There is the mer community here is cyberspace. And then, there is always the pool, the water, and the workouts. When I'm in the water and singing to myself as I do the workouts, all my worries and cares go away. It's like magic. I hope this spirit comes your way and guides you as you go forward.

I've been spending a lot more time in the water these past couple weeks, which has definitely helped. I think I'm gonna text some of my mermaid friends I haven't talked to in a while and hope that helps.
