Hey there! I am a furry and I have a few fursonas and I was wondering if any other Myers out there were also furrys. Or scales, if the case may be.
i have a few Sonas, the first is a genderfluid rat. I also have a female cow, a female fox, a genderfluid flying squirrel and my newest technically is a mythical creature/hybrid known as the Afanc.
i have seen some videos of fur suits that are actually water safe, there was one of a sea dragon, I believe and I would loooove to someday have a furs unit of the Afanc that I could also swim In, since he is a lake monster.
so anyone else?

I spent about nine and a half years in the fandom (started out as a fox, then a lioness, then a gryphon), and have been hovering on the outskirts of it for the last three. Long story short: my experience with the furry fandom was toxic and gross as hell, I backed off, but a lot of my friends are still involved. I don't have a fursona anymore, necessarily, but my mersona Starfrit was based off a Seadragon, so I came up with a Seadragon form for her that I play around with from time to time, so I guess that kinda counts?? :PP (Here's a lazy headshot (http://i.imgur.com/yoAg2Zp.png) I did forever ago, lol)
I'd love to see pics/video of some of the water-safe suits, especially the Seadragon! :D
PS— I only just learned about the Afanc when you joined here, they look and sound SUPER cool. An Afanc suit would be awesome!

I'm a long time member of the furry fandom myself, been involved in it for 14 years now. I have four characters myself, although none of them anywhere near related to mermaiding.
I got to see that penguin suit in person many years ago and even took a couple videos of the suit at a convention many years ago. They are low quality videos as I took them with a basic digital camera back then.

Here's another one where he was in the same pool with mermaids, was my first time seeing mermaid tails in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_XkEN16v50

That is fantastic!! I posted in one of my Facebook furry groups of any one had any ideas for a water safe fur to use and basically got attacked and people asked if I wanted to die and if I was depressed or suicidal. It was so dumb...
Anyway, tieri, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. It is unfortunate that 80% of the community is only on it for yiff. :/. I've definitely gotten rp requests and random pants pictures from guys...

I'm a furry too, been there for like 3 years now. I have a husky, dragon and goat fursuit and I'm planning to make a sergal suit too.
Though I'm not very active in the fandom, I still like to bring a smile on people's faces

I wouldn't say 80% of the fandom is into "those activities", but we definitely have those involved that thinks that's all it's good for. I, for one, isn't involved in those activities, but I'm a fursuiter and also a staff member for a large convention so a lot of my activities in the fandom involve Fursuiting.

Ok, may r not 80%. But the people that are into that are the loud obnoxious ones that everybody sees and notices.

I'm in the furry fandom, have been for a number of years now. I have about five fursuits, though I can usually be found in my pterosaur suit
While not exactly swim safe (I'd probably sink like a rock), the pterosaur suit is water safe. I regularly run through fountains while wearing it and get soaking wet.

Sad, but true unfortunately. There's alot of good people in the fandom like that, but it's those that get noticed and they're the ones that get represented instead.

Wow, i had no idea this was a new thing in the cosplay/dressing up scene.
I love dressing up and i have seen people dress up like animals a lot the past years, mythical and non mythical creatures and was wondering why that happened so much and if it was considered a certain name or "stream" within cosplay.
Thank you for sharing this since i have learned a lot from it.
I would personally love to dress up like mythical creatures like a faun or a dragon.
I actually was looking on a big American costume website and saw some awesome unicorn costumes as well and i would not mind wearing those either.
Do you normally make the costumes yourself or is it also ok to use a store bought costume? Or maybe it does not matter?

Just like with the mer community and its tail makers, the fur community has fur suit makers. Many people make their own but just as many have them Commissioned. Just a head which can be worn with regular clothing usually starts in the $500-700 area. A partial suit, which is usually a head, feet, paws and a tail usually start in the $900-1200 range. Full suits which would include the above as well as a whole body suit are typicalY $1500-1800. And just like with mer tails where you can add extra colours or fins, on a fur suit you can have a resin or a foam head, realistic or tooney eyes, a fan in the head, degigrade (fawn legs) or regular, a quad suit which is down on all fours, and soooo many other variations.
It is one of those things, like Lolita, that is not considered cosplay because you are making your own character and being a furry is more of a way of life then it is a costume or a prop. While I have t seen any professional furrys, I really feel the fur com and the mer com are not all that different!
And I should add that although there are other terms like scaleys, furry is an all inclusive term for an anthropomorphic version of any creature. So a rat, or a fox, or a cat, or a Dutch Angel dragon, or an eagle or a bearded dragon are all considered furries. And there are tons of made up and hybrid species I won't even get into like afore mentioned DADs.
Ok end explanation xD

Wow, thank you for all that info! That is so awesome to learn! I will definitely be looking into it more from now on :)
I've been in the scene off and on for more then 10 years, I've also had multiple fursonas. At the moment I have a cat demon that I'm hoping to have a fursuit of and some other fursonas.

Yep, I got fairly regularly to local furmeets and most of my friends are furries. I'm a chipmunk/coyote.
