Problem with making my Tail Mold

I hope I can get help here (: I am making my own Silicon Tail and am having a slight issue on my sample mini scale sheet. I wanted to be sure that it works on a smaller sheet before I try my big sheet. I am using Monster Clay for my Scale Sheet and Ultra Cal instead of Shell Shock. I have looked and researched a lot of tutorials and I know I am close to getting this project done with some Mermaid Guidance I would be so grateful! This was my dream since I was a little girl to make my own Realistic Tail🐬 I'm a mom of 4 and a Event Stylist Designer so I felt I could at least give this a go. I can't afford anything like this with kids in sports etc. This is for me and hopefully my girls can enjoy as well 💕here is the problem I'm having...a picture is worth a thousand words. Now of course I need a lower resolution image to share my frustration!!! I have overlapping Diamond Shapes and the Tips "some of them break off on the pull!

This means that you have space underneath the tips. You'll need to press them down so they are flush with the next scale.

Yep, you have to watch out for undercuts, especially when using a rigid/brittle mold material!

You may get better results if you put a release agent on the clay, it can lose some small detail but makes cleaning the most a lot easier and reduces breakage.

Thankyou Mermaids for your help �� okay I used release agent and did two sample molds. Mold 1 was a piece I took from my mold sheet "a full mold sheet" of monster clay. Mold 2 I did the same Design Cuts just placed the Diamond Cuts further apart which allows for less gaps underneath where the ridges are. Soooo guess what? I get to remake my mold sheet = FUN ��it's a workout in itself but it seems to work better for me with less chance of mold making issues.i can't afford too many mistakes my Mermaid Money Jar is low (: Thankyou Again! I did do my Pectoral Fins and Dorsal and hope when I get to pouring the Silicon ..I pray will go smoothly (: just taking my time so I can enjoy the Tailmaking Dream (:

I commend you for taking on this project and doing something unique for yourself! Not easy time or money-wise with 4 kids! Those undercuts can be a BITCH! I commiserated with Lorelei a few years ago when I made my first scale sheet mold. Over 4000 graduated scales!!! The Shell Shock squeezed into the tiniest of crevices and made my life a living hell. That was a lot of time, money and GRIEF down the tubes and I had to start from scratch again. Don't lose patience. Better to get it right the first time. ;) You're doing a GREAT job!!! Good luck!

Thankyou Keiris (: changing out the design layout is almost done being I already had the scales. I fixed up anything that got messy and the coolest thing is I have more clay to play with now as before the scales were overlapping and now are further apart. I'm so excited and really love doing this it's actually relaxing unlike my job in the floral wedding industry. Things can get very stressful in my Flowery World. On another note my Fluke is molded out praying everything goes well there I am hoping I didn't make it to wide I might have got a little carried away. I feel like it's Game of Thrones inspired! I love Dragons!
