I am done posting threads after this...

Are there any other mers out there that participate in NaNoWriMo or any of it's offshoots (Camp, Script Frenzy et cetera)? I would totally love to follow you on the site! I am currently trying to plan my NaNo for this year and as a chronic pantser (tailer o.o) I am failing miserably. Actually I haven't even touched my planning.....

Mine will be a sci-fi post apocalyptic world where my MC has the ability (or curse?) to see people as anthropomorphic animals. While everyone else seems normal, he sees peeps as furrys! :P There will be other stuff to it and it's going to end up having a HUGE twist at the end but that's about all the planning I've done so far...

What are your plans for this year? Do you have a genre or idea picked out yet?

I'm writing it, first time this year and nervous as heck about writers block.

My idea is based off a dream I had a while ago. I worked on it more and figured out the general plot. A girl Kate is able to see her alternate selves living their lives. It'll be in first person and I'm hoping to actually write her this ability effects her life, such as blanking out at a checkout and seeing another of her selves reacting to something. When she sees her selves, it'll be in third person as she's looking in someone's life.

It'll be interesting to write about, and I'm looking forward to getting characters and how different they'd be in each setting :D

I'm ArtisticPlatyduck on NaNoWriMo. I've won it...3-4 times? Last year was the first I didn't, and I have intentions to participate this year but low expectations I think. I work best with little planning and so far I've done none. lol.

!!! this is my first year attempting NaNo. I'm WesleyRose on the site and I'm writing a modern fantasy story about a witch who mistranslates a spell (refuses to use google translate) and ends up traveling to the (NOT DESTROYED) library of alexandria to fix her screw-ups! :)

I've tried a couple of times before but November is one of the worst/busiest months of the year for me and this year we (hopefully) might be moving so I don't think I'll even have time to try.

You can do the whole 'November' thing any other month last I heard. :) I've successfully completed this challenge three times and although I will be too busy to do so this year I'll be around if anyone needs anything. A good idea is to have a mentor of sorts and definitely read (you will need to purchase it though) the book, 'No Plot? No Problem!' by the creator of the page. Can't recall his name and don't know where my copy is but if you wish to look into it I'm certain there's a link on the nanowrimo.org site. I hope you all have a lot of fun and don't sweat it! Just writewritewrite and DON'T EDIT ANYTHING! That's the big thing. If you waste time editing it can firstly take away time you need for writing but most importantly you can get caught up on the silliest of things (trust me :p ).

theMerFanc
10-15-2015, 11:20 PM
It absolutely doesn't need to be in November, that's just when everyone else does it so there is a lot of support. But there is also camp NaNo in usually August and July.

Don't edit anything, fo sho. I actually write in google docs on my iPad using a Bluetooth keyboard so I can't even see what I'm typing.

I got to 25,000 on time two years ago (my Sophomore year of HS) and then failed miserably last year. Giving it another go this year.
I got sea witches and mermaids and reporters that don't know what's good for 'em.

I'm OnyxStitiches eveywhere, and this is my first year doing NaNo.
I'm writing about a girl who's inspired to buy a silicone mermaid tail by her pro mermaid friend and runs into sevral merfolk she mistook for fellow mermaid enthuists. They mistake her for a princess of phrophcy, which she isn't, and she gets into sevral higinks convincing the merprince she's not the chosen one or his future bride. Luckily the Empress is one her side. The whole "wait, your tail is real?" thing is going to be fun to write. Also the "Your tail is so realistic! Who'd you get it from?" "Uh, my mom?" "Can she make me one?" "She's on vaction right now...". Then the proffesional mermaid goes looking for her missing friend and gets involved. Things get wacky. Like underwater civil war kind of wacky.
I've got basicly the whole thing planned and I'm breaking it into scenes and chapters now so I can just start writing after midnight on Nov 1st.

I may or may not be making a new account this year on NaNoWriMo, lol. We'll see. Also going for a merfolk thing, no real plot yet. Don't quite want to share the premise until I have it more fleshed out in my brain. That's what I'm doing tonight. XD

I've tried a few times, I get about halfway through and then life takes over. November is just a terrible time for me, but I really wish I could do it in November with the rest of NaNoWriMo as there's SO much support! I've also tried Camp Nano but meh. I did however finish one of my NaNo stories later on. I might spontaneously decide to try and do it this year, we'll find out on the 1st. :) I already have two plots I started (not with NaNo) and want to revisit, so there's no need for planning this time!

I would like to do do something like this, but I never finish my stories, as halfway through I get a writers block or something like that. Neither can I get intresting characters.

Sabrina the Selkie

The time frame of NaNo really helps prevent writers block, Azurin. You just binge write 50,000 words in 30 days abd clean it up later.

I agree! It's a good boost start too, even if you don't get to 50k. My first NaNo I only got to 30k words but finished the novel by February or March, just because NaNo gave me enough of a boost. So yeah, definitely try and see if it helps!

Am I the only one who has tried this for the past few years but never realized there was a website for it? I always just thought it was something writers did for fun in November :$:sweat drop:

Definitely participating this year. Cant decide on one aspect though that I need to get settled before the first! Urgh, its not super crucial, but it would change quite a bit in how the main character views things and such :thinks:

I'm giving it a shot this year, I think I signed up (novlr, is that right?)

I've been gathering ideas and snippets for a long time, but no real cohesive storyline, so we'll see. I've chosen the title Dream of the Fisherman's Wife, nicked from the famous Hokusai painting (lithograph?). Originally, it was just going to be The Fisherman, but I've expanded the concept.

I'm OldhaMedia on the site.

Fins crossed that I can hit the 50k mark in the hours I can write before bedtime!

Ugggh. Yesterday was my first school + work combo day. And I forgot my keys, so I couldn't go home at all in between. Which meant I was going since eight in the morning to nine at night (when school starts and work ends). I fell asleep while doing homework and didn't write at ALL.

My mother decided to be a goddess and let me stay home from school to catch up on my word count (and do some unfinished homework, and clean). So thank the gods for her and her insistence on the importance of creative pursuits.

I'm doing NANORIMO differently. I haven't signed up, because I'm not trying to write a novel right now, but there is so much great writing energy this month because of everyone else trying to do this, that I'm going to take advantage. I'm job hunting right now, and I know that writing and generating ideas will be a big part of any job I land, so I'm making the goal of journaling every day. Not just "dear diary" stuff, although that's part of it, but writing down ideas, free forming, making lists, even writing down things I want to buy (which won't happen until I get that money ;P ).

I have several notebooks and journals, because I have a journal addiction. I also have this awesome app on my computer called OmmWriter. Look it up. It's like $5, and it is amazing, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is trying to write anything. I have a travel journal/planner that goes with me and has space for notes and sketches. I have something with me to write with at all times, and I'm just trying to get every idea down.

There's this 10 ideas a day challenge, where you literally just come up with 10 new ideas about anything every day. It's harder than it seems, but after a month, you become this idea-generating machine, because you've developed that. So, I challenge all of you writers with blocks or feeling like you have no ideas to try to make this list every day!

Sabrina the Selkie
11-05-2015, 05:55 PM
It's a good way to approach to NaNo if you simply don't have the time or motivation to write a novel. Journaling every day is difficult and very cool.

Sabrina the Selkie
11-07-2015, 01:19 AM
I got to 10,000 words literally ten minuets too late for it to be
technically on schedule for my timezone. Lol. *headdesk*

I did just use the "edit word count by day" option to register it as my word count for the 6th, but I kinda feel like it's cheating.
