Hey Everyone,

I have a brand new full silicone tail for sale. I had it custom made for a trip to Grand Cayman, but decided to go a different route at the last minute and do an all sequin one. The only time this tail has ever been worn was to snap a few photos to showcase for this listing. The colors are super rich, and it was all hand tinted. Created by MermaidsRUs and the fluke is one of a kind. It was not mass produced from a mold! If you live in Florida, I can meet you to help save on shipping. Perfect condition! I am a size 0. Wait? Mernetwork is run by a tail maker? I thought Iona and Malinghi ran the forum. Do either one of them sell tails? So confusing!

The forum is run and owned by Malingi and Iona, the Admins.

Neither of them sell tails. Malinghi just recently made his own but doesn't want to sell, and Iona has a merbella tail and makes tops for sale....... So no. MN isn't run by a tailmaker.

As someone who's actually able to post and moderate reviews, every single review that follows the rules in the review thread gets posted. One of the reasons mernetwork exists it's to provide a platform for honest tailmaker reviews. I want to assure everyone that this isn't true and that our reviews are as unbiased as possible.

It reads as misinformed to me. There was a forum run by a tailmaker at one point (still? Don't remember) and I think the names are similar too.

For the record, I know Iona personally and I know that she puts a LOT of time and effort into making sure everything on this site is fair, unbiased, and accurate. And she most definitely does not sell tails.

Now that I'm home I feel like I can address this properly.

1. We need clear guidelines/rules that state what needs to be included in a for sale post, it's weird when people join and it's their first post and they dont have pics or measurements or anything. Not the OPs fault because we don't have it outlined anywhere.

2. Dear Mermaid Princess. I am sorry to tell you, but I feel you've been scammed along with misinformed/potentially lied to.

First of all. Mernetwork is not owned by a tail maker, and reviews go through a pretty specific system to prove they are legit. if you doubt that, you'll also find many negative reviews of mermaidsrus on facebook, youtube, and deviantART. As you'll see in those reviews- many which contain videos and photos, the mermaidsrus tails fall apart. Most certainly paint flaking off is one of the problems, among many. Issues with mermaidsrus tails date back years, and having seen many in person and having many peers own them I can tell you they are not dragonskin, that is most certainly caulking. You can literally see the caulking texture in the photos.

I had to lay some truth bombs because honestly, to me this is coming across as exploitive.

I kinda wanted to say "do me a favour and SHUT UP". I'm sorry, it's clearly not a case of misinformation. It's clearly a case of trying to invalidate real complaints to sell off a tail.

If you want to sell the tail OP, you need to be honest, lower your price, and give people an accurate expectation. Don't mess with people's dreams.

I have bought a few of these tails over the years, they are so hard to fix and I personally will never buy them again!

MermaidsRUs are scam artists, plain and simple. They make terrible tails, they've always made terrible tails, and that is definitely not silicone.

Aren't they the ones who almost got in major legal trouble because they were trying to impersonate Eric to sell their tails under the Mertailor brand? Why are MRU still in business? How are they still in business??!

I've always gotten nauseous whenever I've thought about how difficult it must be to really properly clean a MRU tail. With how scratchy and sloppy they are, there are so many nooks for moisture to cling to and bacteria and mold to grow... :/

Few tailmakers really disgust me the way MRU does, and I'm so sorry you got saddled with one of their tails, MermaidPrincess. :(

I'm not clear why it was necessary for anyone to disparage the quality of the tail being posted for sale or the price she was selling it for. The rules for posting Classified Ads are posted here http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?10602-Classifieds-Rules-PLEASE-READ-BEFORE-POSTING! and state sales are at the buyer's risk. Especially when you look at the poster's posting history, it seems rather unfair to have red-lettered this post as any kind of attempt at subterfuge when one could have easily given the benefit of the doubt that perhaps she was not aware of it's quality or worth. That's jumping to conclusions and I don't think the original poster of the ad violated any rules or more importantly, deserved the response to her, (as far as anyone knows), well meaning ad to just sell a tail.

I think the primary issue is that it is listed as a 'full silicone tail' when it isn't. Seller misinformation or not the item they are trying to sell is not the same as the item described and people are simply trying to ensure that people here who may be looking to buy this understand what the product is actually made of and the risks associated with that and the actual worth.

No one here accused the OP of lying intentionally, in fact most people have stated they believe it is simply misinformation on the OP's part. It's her husband they are accusing on lying and every reply here has been very level headed and professional, the only real fighting occurred on FB and all the anger is directed towards her husband and mermaids r us

Thank you, I guess I misinterpreted the red flag postings and bullshit warnings prior to the postings about who owns the network as being towards the original poster as it wasn't specified who they were directed at or why that was relevant in a classified ad posting. Had I posted the ad, I'd have assumed they were directed at me.
I agree that the ad should be accurate.

We have an add trying to sell a 'silicone' tail with little, misleading, information. No photos. No measurements. From a known scam artist tail maker. Based on the history of people trying to hawk bad tails on the internet, the reputation of the tail maker, and the published history on this website you're concerned people are raising a red flag?? Really??

The fb posts just validate why people should be concerned. And based on the replies I got I do think they're lying to sell a tail. Before it was taken down OP swore up and down they have several mermaids r us tails that never flake paint and it is totally dragon skin!

I calls bs when I see it.

Probably because at this point most people have the sense not to waste their money on that garbage, so everyone just keeps kinda forgetting that MRU even still exists, lol. I'd totally forgotten about them until this thread!

Seriously though. They managed to make a "silicone" (lol) orca tail look FURRY. That's like some kind of record in awful.

I'm inclined to think people were very right to call out this seller for dishonesty now.

It may have sufficient drainage to make up for that. people seem to think that no water should get in the fluke but so far only merbellas has accomplished that feat :)

Nope, Finfolk flukes are not glued. Mine isn't, anyway. Hence the drainage on the ends of the flukes. The silicone is tight enough that it doesn't balloon.

That was my thought too, since she stated that it was a MermaidsRUS tail early in the OP, but its still odd to see a Mertailor size sheet...

While it's certainly not right to be deceiving when selling something (especially at this price point), I do understand the frustration this seller is probably feeling. Let's be real, this individual will probably not be able to sell this tail if he or she is to be 100% honest about the quality of it. Thankfully we are well educated on tailmakers but many still aren't. I think the most we can do to help at this point is continue to encourage others to do the research necessary when making a big purchase like this.
