Help! I need to know what to make my scale mold out of.

I am doing a individual scale tale and I made my scale sheet and poured it with plaster of pairs which didn't work with the silicon it bubbled and the scales are unusable. What is something I can use instead of plaster that I don't have to order online?

Silicone is very viscous and without a proper degassing, you're going to end up with bubbles. It's the nature of the material.
The plaster should work just fine, though for a long term pour I'd recommend shellshock from smoothon. You can get in from Reynolds up in Dallas (Seeing as you're from the same area :D!) and it'll run about $30 for a trial. Mainly because the plaster might eventually crumble apart from handling, and you might be left with half a tail done with no mold.

One trick to cut down on bubbles is to pour it from very high up and let it thinly stream down into the mold, finding its own level. Moving the molds at all might introduce airbubbles so its best to do it somewhere you know for a fact the mold won't be moved. Hope that helps!

mix your silicone slowly, stick it in the freexer once you mix it for ten minutes (it wont cure) and then pour it. it will degas better that way, but you shouldnt have that many bubbles... is the plaster bubbled or the silicone?

edit: oh i see. my first advice stands.

looks like you mixed too quickly. you shouldnt have to rush mixing. the bubbles probably come from mixing and pouring, not from the plaster.

Use a hard resin. Make sure that resion won't react with the clay you're using. My first scale sheet was resin and while it was thin in spots and had holes in those scales it works brilliantly.
