He all, sorry if this is a redundant thread but I couldn't find anything answering my specific question.

I was gifted some cash by my mother to pay rent and to do things that make me feel good and I have just been dieing to get a monofin so I can start doing more water excersize and start my mermaiding journey. I have come to find that the Finis Rapid and the Finis Wave seem to be a good size, material and price. But I was looking at them on Amazon, where I plan to make my final purchase, and I found a lot of reviews saying either the fin snapped after a few wears or the foot strap broke or the feet holes are way to narrow and other nasty sounding issues that I don't want to run into.

So I really wanted to know from you all if you've had these sorts of problems with these fins? I plan to just get used to swimming int he fin as is first and then I will eventually either modify the one I buy or buy a second one to modify into the paddle shape for my eventual tail.

I really enjoy my Finis Rapid. I haven't been swimming with it an insane amount, but it is holding up really well so far. I too have heard that they can break and that does worry me a bit.
I do try to take super good care of my Rapid. It comes with plastic foot inserts and I always put those back in the foot pockets when I am not wearing it so that they keep their shape. I store it flat under my bed when not in use. I also try not to leave it in a hot car.

My boyfriend sometimes wears my Rapid. I am a girl's size 9 1/2 and my boyfriend has weird feet one foot is a size 10 and the other is a size 11. My boyfriend can comfortably wear the rapid. At least one other guy has worn it a bit too.

I really like the foot strap. It is nice and thick so you don't feel like you are going to break it when you tighten it to your feet. The one thing that takes getting used to is getting the strap to stay up. The first few swims were weird because I didn't pull the strap up high enough and it would slip off of my feet. Now I have gotten the hang of pulling the strap up high so that it can't easily slide down the back of my foot and to also tighten the monofin fairly tight - not too tight of course. The foot pockets are great.

I really enjoy the Rapid and I think it is a great first monofin. It isn't too floppy or too stiff.

The Rapid is the one I was interested in because it is larger and sturdier and not as flimsy and the price is t that much more. I really felt like this site wouldn't have recommended those first in the long list of fins if they weren't good quality. I am just weary of Amazon sometimes.

I am weary of Amazon reviews as well. I *Think there is still a coupon code you can put in for your monofin order. I know when I got mine there was a code you could enter with the word Mermaid in it?

You mean from Finis? It's Mermaid20 and its 20 percent off, which literally covers what shipping is. Which means it is still a $40 price difference from Amazon to the Finis site for the same product.

I have a wave, it's good, but I found the heel straps to be annoying. They tend to slide off, but others have replaced them with elastic to stop that.

I find monofins on their own are quite different from monofins in a tail. A lot of problems people have, come from the fins being in a tail. And the type of monofin you want/need always depends on your purpose.

The foil is nice because it has foot pockets as opposed to straps. When I first started using mine having used a competitor for so long, it hurt my feet and took some getting used to.

I find most monofin issues can be corrected just by wearing socks. If you buy directly from finis (and there's loads of coupon codes if you google) they are great about exchanges or refunds, and even strap replacements!

Quite a few people have had their wave/rapid snap right at the toes but I think it was a faulty batch. Mine is old, beat up, extended with massive amounts of gorilla tape, and still hasn't broken at all.
