Not really sure what to start with :P I don't have a mer-name yet (I'm sure some of you will be able to help with that) so for the time being feel free to call me Tails. The name comes from my roller derby moniker Tailspin although I haven't played in nearly a year due to a shift in work patterns.

I have always had a love of mermaids and things aquatic. When I was little I wasn't allowed a tail so use to pretend my sleeping bag was one, although not very practical for swimming in ;). Now that I'm grown up (sort of), I'm still passionate about being in the water and work as a swimming teacher and hydrotherapy assistant. I'm also currently the interim swim co-ordinator for my local leisure centre but that role will finish soon. Aside from working I am a student studying physiotherapy, hoping to specialise in aquatic therapy and sports rehabilitation for swimmers / divers. Of course what I would really like to do is be a professional mermaid, the start of which will hopefully be happening in the summer when I will be running an aquatics based summer camp as part of work. I have my fingers crossed that my first tail will be finished and in use by then. Ideally I'd like to have my own aquatics school but who knows what the future holds.

I would love to take up diving, although at the moment I'm not sure where I'd be able to fit it in!

I don't know what else to say at the moment, but feel free to throw me some questions :)

Lovely to be here can't wait to meet you all!

Hello and welcome, Tailspin!
(one of my merdance techniques is named tailspin, heh)

And yay, more UK mers.
There must be a whole pod of them now!

Thanks for the welcome ^_^ I was surprised there wasn't already a British pod tbh :P but then I'm new to the mer-community so I really don't know how popular it is in the UK :P

I think popularity is hindered a bit by the unforgiving UK pool rules.

Word spreads much faster if mers are allowed to swim here and there.

I second what Echidna said - yay for more UK mermaids :D Hi Tailspin! Sounds like water is definitely your element :)

This! Every pool I've contacted about swimming with a monofin/tail have reacted as if I'm asking to get in the pool naked or something. D:

This is a problem I might actually be of some help with! Working for a leisure centre group means they are a little more forgiving with requests I make, not to mention I'm hoping to bring the mono fin to kids in my area during my summer kids club. By teaching correct and safe swimming skills with them I'm hoping that they will be more widely accepted through the centres in the area. Also, I can get discounted pool hire for private pod parties ;)

Well if you see a coach full of mermaids pull up outside your workplace, you'll know why! :P Seriously though that's awesome :)

Thank you for the warm welcome ^_^

I finally decided on the mersona, Ophelia Finn and will be pursuing a freshwater style. I wanted something a little bit steampunk and harry potter-esque and I love the darker connotations of Ophelia. The name means 'help' and I like the idea of turning something dark and troublesome into something positive and beautiful. I hope to post more in the way of story and designs soon.
