This is a thread to show off photos of your mermaid makeup! Feel free to add what inspired your unique look!

Here's mine! The inspiration is pretty obvious - my favorite flower and mermaid namesake, the lotus! <3

EDIT: I forgot to mention what I used to get this look!

Liquid foundation, some light pink going into redder blush, just one or two coats of black mascara, red lipstick, a few rhinestones, pink glitter, and a pink lotus on either side, outlined in white and blended in the middle using Kryolan Aquacolor. :)

You're so talented at makeup Lotus! No matter how much I practice I just cat get eyeliner down :p. You have really fair skin like I do, how do you find the right shade of foundation? Most of the lightest shades in drugstore makeup are still a shade or two too dark for my skin tone.

As much as I love the wild eyeshadow colours I see other Mermaids use, I have come to the conclusion that simple eyes and bright lips is the best look for me.

KellyMermaid: Thank you, sweetness!! I actually went through way too many foundations to count before finding one light enough for my skin tone!!! It's more expensive ($25 at Sephora), but one tube of Clinique's Even Better foundation Alabaster #01 will last you at LEAST a month, if not up to 2 or 3. I always use liquid, but they offer powder as well if you prefer that! I have combination skin. Obviously, I'll need to get a sealer or another waterproof foundation later but it did the trick for a dry pic! XD I hope that helps!!!

Here's a mermaid-y look that I did quickly one afternoon when I was bored. Most of it is eyeshadow, with black liquid eyeliner. I threw on a silver wig and a pearl necklace as a crown to complete the look.
I used the fishnet trick to get a scale-like pattern on my cheeks and forehead. The lipstick is by Kat Von D.
If I was to do this look again, I would go slower so that the eyebrows and eyes had cleaner lines, and maybe add liner underneath the eyes too. I would also stick on a bunch of irridescent sequins to look like scales.

I went to a sea-themed fundraiser last night and, of course, wore a mermaidy look to it. Still with a big cateye because I can't do without, lol. People have actually started remembering me as the 'resident mermaid' even without my tail on, so I think I'll start wearing mermaid makeup to all those events, sea theme or no. Gotta mark my territory, y'know?

Hi Sabie! Yes, we swim with it all the time. We use two different methods to apply the glitter, depending on if we are wearing it wet or dry. For a dry shoot or quick application, just use a little Vaseline. When swimming, we use spirit gum. With spirit gum, it will stay put for days at a time, through multiple dunkings and shoots.

All that being said though, we are currently looking into whether we'll continue to use glitter this way. First of all, spirit gum is very hard on the skin. Second and more importantly, with all that has come to light with microbeads, I'm not sure how environmentally responsible it is. I definitely would not wear glitter in a natural body of water or an aquarium with live animals/ecosystems. I'd keep it to human pool use only if you do do it, and even then make sure you get permission.

A couple of weeks ago I did an underwater video and for the first time used Urban Decay (http://www.sephora.com/urban-decay?icid2=product_link_brand)All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray. It's sold in Sephora in 2 sizes, $15 and $30. It was INCREDIBLE. Granted I was already using all waterproof make-up but I sprayed it on and after 2 hours of pretty vigorous swimming, diving, and splashing around my make-up looked EXACTLY the same when I got out. I love this stuff, I'd recommend it to anyone.

Which one did you order, Momo?
The bright ones are my favorite, personally. I've been eyeing the sugarpill line for some time.
I find that keeping the color on the outer corner with a lot of blending and neutrals works well for me. If I am doing a neutral look, I like to line my lower lash line with a bright color.
One time I tried to color my whole lid ( as opposed to my outer corner) with a gradient of greens and blues. I looked quite silly.

Do you have costume stores or make-up/accesory stores where you live?
We have costume stores in many towns and cities here where you can buy costumes for Halloween and such. They always have a lot of make up and accesories as well, they have for instance rhinestone stickers to put on your face in all colors and varieties.
*Edit : i offered to look in the stores here what prices are for those stickers but i see you mentioned them already so you probably have them :-)

A shy red siren:P this was a makeup I did around Halloween time this past year. I see so many beautiful cool color schemed mermaids,but rarely any that are red/orange! The headpiece I made out of seashells,netting,pearls,and hot glue webbing to create faux 'sea fans'. One day,I'd like to make a tail for this look [emoji5]

Or a shimmery eyeshadow, if you don't like glitter (I've danced most of my life and have come to hate glitter with a fiery passion). And you could try bringing some of the glitter/shimmer around the corners of your eyes to make it a bit more visible, if you want.

Here's an example of the way I usually do my mermaid makeup. Since my tail colors are blue, and my favorite color is a kind of greenish blue, I usually make my eye shadow a kind of ombre of several shades of blue. (I use a cheap palette from Forever 21) I also add a white cream eye pencil in the inner corners to brighten up my eyes (I use Nyx's Jumbo Eye Pencil in color "Milk"). I used some liquid liner (it was mostly a dry shoot so nothing fancy) but looking back I wish I would have made it a bit of a darker/thicker cat eye. I also had some mascara but other than that kept it pretty minimal (light foundation, no lip products, and just some clear gel to hold my brows in place). I'm doing my first real gig this upcoming weekend, so I'm going to try to take the makeup a little bit more over the top and fantastical and add some clear stick on gems and maybe some false lashes. I also have a photoshoot coming up this week which should be fun to experiment with makeup. I'll post after the event so you all can see the new makeup looks!

Here's the makeup I tested out at the pool last evening. It stayed on REALLY well during my 45 minute swim. The lipstick faded a bit, but it's not long lasting lipstick, so I expected that.

So this is one I have been playing with. My tail is going to be various blues and black with some silver. Sorry it's so big and sideways :( and not a very good picture. My bathroom sucks for lighting and my front camera is broken!
