Hello from LA!

Hi there everyone!

My name is Claire and I've loved everything about mermaids since I was little. Like a lot of users here, I wore out my Little Mermaid VHS tape! I remember standing by bodies of water (pools, oceans, rivers, basically any body of water) and crying because I knew I would never be able to grow a mermaid tail and swim forever. (I have no idea what my parents thought about this, but it was probably an exasperating situation for them) :lol:

I am a writer for BuzzFeed, and I specialize in mermaid/underwater life content. I would like to go to Mermaid Academy at some point and become a certified mermaid. There's also a Dolphin Communication course in Hawaii that I think would be a blast to take.

I don't know if I'll ever own my own mermaid tail (maybe I'll make my own someday?) but I really enjoy looking at everyone's creativity and I do truly appreciate what mermaiding means to everyone here.

There are mermaid school and academies all over the world. We don't really have certification, that's more a selling thing haha. But I know there's several in LA!!!

I've been trying to find Mermaid Schools in LA and haven't been pulling anything up that is for adults. xD But maybe I just have been looking in the wrong places?

Well to be fair I'm a seasonal fish. I'm in hibernation lol! I tend to swim around Long Beach area, I don't have a regular pool, at the moment.
I actually did get in the ocean a couple weeks ago and it wasn't so bad, I forget that El Niño warms up the water. :)

Maybe I will! Do you have any recommendations for brands of monofins?Finis puts out some really good beginner monofins as affordable prices. I started with a Finis Foil and now swim with a Finis Wave.

How did you like the Foil? What convinced you to get the Wave? For you, how do they compare? Am thinking of getting a Foil.

The wave is bigger than the foil, the foils is rubber and the wave is plastic. I prefer the wave for size.
