Hey lovely syren studios mermaids!
I know this was slightly discussed in the original thread but I didn't want to dilute the thread with con/meetup posts so I made this one.

I know RomanLaveau was cooking something juicy up but so far do we have any idea about what we're gonna be doing and when we all want to meet up? And where?

I know we are meeting in Cali. Some of us have to fly there (aka moi)
but anywhere specific?

lets shoot off some ideas guys!

Fantastic idea starting a separate thread! This should help to get the ball rolling! If I knew more places in Cali, I would contribute, but my knowledge is limited to well-known cities. Haha I would definitely love to meet up with the Sacramento Mers, of course, but that's really not at all relevant to the Con. Just my own bucket list item to cross off. ^-^

A lot of California mers are in the southern half, but we have a lot of nice places here up north! I don't know of a whole lot of places, just a couple of pools in the Bay Area.

I've only ever been to Disneyland in California. I pondered on wandering around the area but well I never got the chance lol! I've kinda wanted to see little Saigon. And travel to west Hollywood.

If it's a 3 day weekend meetup we could hit the Disney California adventures park on one of the days and hang around paradise pier with our off duty mer get up :P we could even eat at Ariel's grotto and ride the little mermaid ride!! We could even hit the pool behind the Disneyland hotel (no tails though. :( against the rules)

I will get back to you all in a few with amazing Mer and non Mer related activites and we can compile a list, and I'll get pricing, and we can move on from there! Sound good?

Lol so the things that people love to come to Cali to do is outdoorsy stuff and whattaknow it all deals with beachy stuff lol Anyways
As Seaglass Siren said there is Dland and California Adventure
There is also Downtown Disney
Hollywood Walk of Fame
We can hike to the Hollywood sign
Beach trip to Malibu, it has the crystal water
Photoshoots both underwater and land shoots (This is a given)
Swim with Otters and other aquatic animals
There is a small, cute roller-coaster and family like Carnival at Santa Monica Pier (Also on the beach)
We can ride bikes down the Coastline
Go to different eateries and try weird, fattening foods (e.g. egg and bacon between glazed donuts etc.)
the La Jolla Cove, there's more wildlife at this beach and its in San Diego!
......If you have any ideas of things you would like to do, please let me know and I can make it happen, being from Cali, I don't know what people would want to do when they come! If any of these ideas above tickle your flipper, let me know but I will definitely be coming up with more ideas down the road!

I'm assuming they don't want any liabilities if there was an accident in one of our tails. And guests will probably think you work there .

So I'm also here from SyrenSong's thread :rollover: lol
I agree, the San Diego area would be great. I went during THE DEEP OF WINTER once and the water was still pretty warm. I just vote for around the end of Summer because I work at the Renaissance Festival here and if you've ever worked at one then you know, there is no such thing as rto ;^;.

Since there's two events in 2016 we could probably have it for 2017 just so all the mers dont break bank. *fish better have their moneh!*

OH my goodness!!!! This...is...amazing. I'm there! San Diego is probably the best idea for California. I'm from Northern California and though our beaches are beautiful...they are cold and rugged. Not really group picture friendly. Or just friendly in general. And Disneyland...we don't have Disneyland. And I usually work in the hotel industry. If I'm working at a hotel and can get an industry rate in 2017, I might be able to get us a couple of rooms. :) though it is typically a max of 3 rooms at a time.

Seeing all the pics coming out of Mermania this weekend has convinced me that I need more IRL mermaid friends. I wonder if I could drag my mom along to SyrenCon - she loves mermaids nearly as much as I do and I think she'd really love to see us all cavorting in the water.

Of course my tail needs some work before I could show it off lol. All the new tails are such a vast improvement on my little Baby I'd be embarrassed for you all to see it.

I'm in San Diego. I was born and raised here and only left for a couple years, which I will never do again. Fyi - scheduling anything during SDCC will only work for those who already have accommodations or are able to stay with someone who does. Hotels, motels, everything is booked very far in advance and people even end up staying in the east county for SDCC, which... is nowhere near the coast, although CC is sorta, near beautiful harbors and marinas. Also, we don't have the best public transportation at all- the trolley is getting better, but it's nowhere near the kind of public transportation achievements of almost any other large city; using car services or rental cars is always a better idea (unless you're going to Con or select few other events). Just a couple things to keep in mind. My mom was in tourism here for many years, and tourists are always shocked at our terrible public transportation, that you often cannot just walk into a hotel and get a room and cannot at all during Comic Con, and that the traffic and driving is like being a driver in an auto theft video game.

~le sigh~ I love it. Even if we are flooding, seeing water spouts, and having tornado watches, and had an earthquake this morning. :D <-- yes, that all happened today!

There are 3 aquariums in San Diego; The Birch in La Jolla (http://aquarium.ucsd.edu/), associated with Scripps Institute of Oceanography (free parking, beautiful location) which is wonderful, and the Sea Life Legoland Aquarium in Carlsbad. ($15 parking at this time, and inland Carlsbad, just on the other side of the 5, you can also go to Legoland and their waterpark for additional cost.) Also, the Living Coast in Chula Vista- I've never been and always forget it's there.

And yes, our Zoo is world renowned for good reasons!

So we are in the midst of planning this now so that we can book hotels asap/ or figure out how many people are coming and seeing if some can just stay with us (at least for the first one). I have booked hotels for SDCC and I'm only an hour and a half away lol and most of our activities might not even be in SD sooo the hotel issue probably won't be that much of a problem, besides who doesn't like a small road trip ahaha. Most of the people who are coming to this live in California and drive so we can work all that out anyways. And there's always Uber/Lyft etc. if needed! This is not going to be a go with the flow type of event, there will be an itinerary and everything will be set well before we even announce it, just trying to get a feel for what everyone wants to do so that I can plan accordingly! This is set for 2017 so we have some time. Thanks for the helpful information :)

Lmao you mean what hotels are NOT in the area, SD is a popular tourist spot sooooo there is a lot of hotels, depends on what kind you want! Like regular style hotel rooms, suites, condo style! SO MANY OPTIONSSSSSS!!!!

Yeah, I guess I should amend that statement. If you want a block of rooms together, you would definitely need very advanced planning.
My experience getting rooms in SD on short notice has always been a single room.

Ok so I went onto trivago.com and found a bunch of hotels. Not sure which one to go for though... And with how horrible the Canadian dollar is the prices for a room is kinda terrifying. Hope the dollar goes down next year

Well I was thinking depending on how many people want to go since, SD is definitely a beach city and it will be summer so people will travel: we can find some of those people who rent out their beach house! So then people can definitely split that or we can do multiple suites and split that as well!! Depending on where I'm living in 2017, it might be a townhouse or it might be an actual house, can determine how many can stay with me comfortably (if people are comfortable with that)! But we have time lol

And I don't have a Siren Studios tail, (although I am STRONGLY considering changing that), would I still be able to come? Would love to meet the Mers from all far away, especially Lotus and Sea Glass, (no offense Roman, we live a stone's throw apart already ;P) and go for a swim with you guys!!

awwww noooo you should def try, the earlier you buy your tickets the better...when I fly from NC(for school) back to Cali, we buy our tickets early and sometimes it's cheaper to buy two one way tickets...also there is Spirit Airlines where you can get tickets for suuuuper cheap! And since its in the summer one ideal thing to do, a trick my mom figured out is to book your flight on Wednesdays if possible because that is when flights are cheapest! You also have over a year to save something if anything! But there will be a detailed list of everything we do and when we finalize that, it will all be posted probs on a Facebook page! And I'm hiring a pro photographer to be around us all the time so there will be plenty of pro and normal people pictures taken hahaha but seriously if you need help with anything or advice...I've been traveling back and forth for school and soccer (globally) so there's some tricks to flying cheap and efficiently...just ask, more than willing to help where I can

RomanLaveau
02-26-2016, 01:19 PM
Not yet Geoff, but we should get on it asap!

THIS IS FOR EVERYONE: If you haven't already seen, our Cali Merfolk pod is starting their own Con called Kelpstock (I love it)! This would take place in June 2017! I love the idea and the people putting it together are top notch! So here is where I stand on SyrenCon, do we still want to do it or move on over to Kelpstock because they have a whole team getting together to put this on! If we still want SyrenCon, I will obviously do my very best to make sure it's perfect, however, I know SDCC was a thing we wanted and the Kelpstock dates do not coincide with it so there's that! Just let me know ASAP what yall want to do and we will start finalizing everything!
