There is a company near me called Little Princess Parties, and they have mermaids. I have been talking to the owner and she says if they ever have a request for a merman she will let me know, but there is nothing on the website about mermen (or prince, which they occasionally have but only big events) at parties. Is there a friendly way to ask if she could mention merman or prince for parties are available?

In this case of princess parties, you mostly need to look the part.
Please don't take any offense to what I'm about to say but from a business standpoint of aesthetics, you really have to look the part of a Disney Prince or King that little girls would want to look up to. Not saying that there is a general look to it however, in the eyes of mothers and small children, there is. From my stalking of your profile picture, the fact that you have a beard may have already set her away from you.
For these types of instances where the market is low, you have to create a demand for you. I would go up to her, give her some fliers of yourself and the services or products you can provide and let her know that you know that the market for Princes and Kings are low but you're hoping to create a bigger demand and that it may benefit the both of you to work together.
At least, that's how I would approach it :) remember they're also looking for people to not only be able to play the part, but also who would be able to look the part as well so you have to take that into consideration.

You might consider making a prince costume you'd be comfortable wearing, or even say you'd be willing to be their handler. Like helping tote costumes to and from the parties and offer rides. If you have photography skills offer those.

Also your demeanor tells a lot about you, I'm a beginning princess performer and you have to have good social skills, and be able to always stay in character, even the princes who tag along have to interact with the children, sometimes even sing along with the princess, the princes are the ones herding the kids in , making sure props are where they should be, etc, because a princess can't herd kids without it being unprincess like.
If she sensed you don't have that people skills isn't your strongest suit, she may opt to pass over your request.
(and also the beard thing)

I would be my own character the same way one of her mermaids is her own character and doesn't play Ariel. And I have no problems shaving my beard, its much more attached to me than I to it.

Even if you're your own character, to work with a character/princess company your character needs to have a personality that will be attractive to kids.

Please note none of us are trying to put you down or be rude. But swim lesson kids and someone that is actually hiring you to play and be a mermaid is totally different. For swim lessons it's a you get what you get. When hiring someone to do a skill you pick and choose by someone's appearance and there skill level how they can adapt and how approachable they are to a child.
Now I'm a bigger person so this goes to me as well but when you see perfeshional mermaids what do you first notice ? How in shape they are they are slim muscular friendly and always have a smile. Before I start advertising I am a mermaid for hire I am gonna rid of my belly and get some muscle . Now when a girl either young or even in their team looks at their idle for a prince or a king most of them are highly fit and in shape kind of a chizzled out of marble affect it's applying to the eye and draws attention ya know
