How did you decide on your mersona? and why?

Hi everyone!

So i'm currently in the process of waiting for my tail to be shipped :)
So while i'm waiting i thought i'd ask other mers, on how they decided on their mersona's, and why they chose it.

I'm thinking about mine at the moment, i'm Maori (probably the darkest mer in my area haha) so i was thinking of sticking to a maori name? something pacific islander-ish to keep true to my roots. Maybe Moana? which is sea in maori.

[Lotus the Mermaid]

I actually always loved the lotus flower and how it looks like it's just meant to be in the water. That's how I feel. Water has always been my home, and a symbol of spiritual significance as well. It's a symbol of peace in many religions, too. And of course, I've always loved mermaids since I was little. It seemed natural to combine the two. :)

[SeaGlass Siren]

Seaglass (or drift glass or beach glass, whatever you call it) is a symbol of transformation from being something from land to sea. Kind of like how us hooomans want to be mermaids. You take a manufactured human thing like a coca cola bottle and it ends up in a body of water, and as time goes on it breaks apart into shards and erodes into milky pieces that look so raw and natural, but not... If you know what I mean. And when you find one its a pretty gem.

But also the area in which I used to live near (Lake Ontario) was always covered in small seaglass I thought it was appropriate :P

Me being a Princess is based on me benovelently watching over sea animals like a good monarch should. I'm a vegetarian, so for me fish are friends, not food, which is also the case for the merfolk in some kid-friendly mermaid media like Disney's The Little Mermaid, so my mersona is based on the fairy tale ideal that merfolk can speak to sea creatures as if they were people

Well Roman has been my nickname for years and Laveau comes from my love for the culture of Voodoo, and the Queen herself Marie Laveau! It also happens that I love alligators and snakes which are frequent in the Bayou! Also I love villains more than anything, and since I come from California, I thought the Wicked Merman of the West was fitting, which is what also helped design my tail!

Well I've come up with my mersona finally! For me it was a mix of my favorite mermaid lore and my favorite environmental projects. I'm wanting to get involved with saving the otters to keep urchin population down to save the California kelp forests. My tail is gonna be blue so Wisty is more suited to open water, so i decided that she was an open water mermaid who moved to the kelp forests and now comes ashore to teach humans about saving the ocean. She eats humans occasionally just because I love siren mythos. But she only eats rude ones. Her name comes from mist, whimsy, wisteria, etc. she ideally has gills as well as lungs, webbed fingers, and is bioluminescent!

Ren is a name I use for when I need to be competitive. ie Racing/lazer tag/ tournaments.
It's quick and sharp. Much like my mersona. Aerodynamic with deadly sharp teeth >:]

I think I've finally decided on the mersona, Phantom. Because, well... I love dark and scary stuff, but I am also a fan of more pretty, "girly" stuff, if you know what I mean??? I felt that the name "Phantom" could kind of feel magical, along with scary, depending on how I do my makeup! :lol: Also... there's this guy (http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/devilmaycry/images/f/f8/Phantom.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080304031616)... who is from my FAVORITE video game series (he is called "Phantom"). I wanted to give a nod to the series, without making it extremely obvious where the name comes from (Tail will be inspired by the game as well, but not sure what character will be primary inspiration yet). I was gonna use "Beryl" but, because of internet stalkers, I decided to not use that one... ugh.

So, basically... my Mersona gives me the freedom to kind of alter who I am at a given moment... and it satisfies my need to be as DMC-ish as possible! :phew:

Flowers, Glass, Animals, Voodoo, Conservation and Eerie characters, i love it!

It's really interesting to see the back story of a mersona, i believe it shows who you truly are. I doubt anyone would decide on something like that, with a whim.

Your mersona, Roman, it's really cool! i love voodoo, magic and dark tv shows. New Orleans is on my bucket list! i loved the voodoo elements in the princess and the frog :D

To be honest I'm still trying to think up my back story xD the kids I usually work with don't care about it,they are just thrilled to see the mermaid.But now that I think about it.I should probably give Sabrina a backstory haha

Everyone here has something so cool but the best I can come up with is Thea Marlin (guess what the tail will look like) because it's a pun on one of my favorite "Arrow" characters. I'm not totally sold on the mersona either so I haven't put it in my signature yet.

I have yet to come up with my mersona. I'm too indecisive with names haha.
