Hello! My name is Savannah, although I prefer Savvy (mostly thanks to Captain Jack Sparrow) I currently live in Florida and I'm fairly new to this forum, though I've been scrolling through some of the threads on this site for a few months. I was hesitant about joining because I'm pretty young (14) considering that most the people I've seen on this site are young adults and older but I hope you'll accept me anyways.

I suppose I'll tell how I got into Mermaiding. (apologies, I like story telling) It started about two or three years ago when my cousin got me into H2o: Just Add Water and convinced me that I had mermaid powers like they did on the show, but about a year later the excitement died out and I had almost completely forgotten about mermaids, but my cousin held strong to the love of mermaids and found several youtube videos on how to make mermaid tails and she got hooked. She constantly told me of her attempts to make a tail. First it was fabric, then it was buying one, then she wanted to make a latex tail, then a silicone tail, all were failed attempts but she wasn't discouraged. So she asked me for help so I became involved once again. We settled on trying to make a fabric tail. I did a lot of research and suddenly I found myself lusting after my own tail again. Searching for cheap ways to make tails, I stumbled across you guys! So that's my story! Although we still have yet to make the tails, my cousin has made her own monofin and plans to buy fabric for it this spring.

Sorry I rambled:$ anyway here's some quick fire facts about me!

I love writing (Explaining my tendency to ramble):D
I volunteer at a local "horses for handicapped people" center, and loved horses since I was very young
I love Japanese culture and Korean culture (and their music)
and I strive to reach my goal of being multilingual and a professional interpreter

Welcome from another Florida mer!
You aren't in the Florida panhandle by any chance are you (not asking for your exact location just wondering what region)? So far I have only found one other mer on this site who is in this region of Florida so every time I see a new Florida mer I am just curious if they are in my area. :p

There are a lot of great springs to visit in our state if you haven't explored any yet. I had never been to a spring until recently. They are great to mermaid at! You and your friend might have fun checking out this site: http://www.floridasprings.org/visit/map/

Anyways good luck on making tails! :D

Welcome! My name is Savannah as well! Though my mer name is Sirenia, which is what I go by on here :) what area of florida? Though I attend college in California, I'm from the Jacksonville area!

Welcome! Just barely 18 myself.
I also strive towards polyglotism - thus far I am almost conversational in Japanese. If that language is on your list, kanji is a perpetual kick in the butt, but speaking skills are actually much easier to learn than people seem to think. (Can you tell that I also like to write?)

Anyway, welcome to the Network and good luck with your tail making ventures!

I'm terribly sorry but I live more in the Tampa Bay area, but sometimes my family and I have mini vacations in the northern areas of Florida :D Thank for the recommendations for places to swim. Perhaps my cousin and I will have time to visit a few in the spring or summer time.

Thanks for the reassurance and kind welcome Kalani! I'll definitely make sure that this is the first place I post pictures once myself or my cousin finish our tails (whenever that might be) :D

Yeah Kanji is one thing I don't look forward to learning- mostly because I have a hard time memorizing things on paper as opposed to hearing them- but I'm determined to learn everything I can.

Anyways, what kind of writing do you like/do? I personally prefer fictional writing (mostly fantasy based with hints of romance, action, and comedy.)

Fantasy with action myself. I generally pointedly avoid romance - at least between the male and female leads. I like to make something of a feminist point, there. Although an idea percolating in my brain has absolutely no fantastical elements whatsoever. *headdesk*

Anyway, even Kanji isn't so bad. It just takes practice, and because of the shape of hiragana and their lack of word delineations, Kanji actually makes reading easier. It's just writing that's a pain.
