Hey everyone! This has been an idea I've been toying with for a while and with a move happening in February it may actually be something that comes true! I'm in the stages of making painted Neoprene and latex Aquarium safe silicone caulking coated tails. We want to offer both because not everyone wants latex and there are not too many Neoprene tails out there.


What I'm asking for are testers! Mermaids who have 1-2 gigs or swims every week or two who can put these tails through the ropes. All you'd need to do is supply a monofin and we will take care of the rest (except shipping, please be aware I am in canada and shipping can get expensive. If I have a lot of people interested from the US I can do a trip down to point roberts to ship inside the states). We will be working with simple designs and colors first if possible and then moving to more complex markings and designs. If you are interested see details below!


We will be producing our own prototypes in house first and then sending some out to testers once I like the feel of them in the water and how they lay on land.

Its still a far ways off (AT LEAST 3 months) but I'd like to get moving on things so that when a ball starts rolling it keeps going. Starting is always the hard part!

I would be very interested!! I don't have too many gigs but I am a very good swimmer and have had experience with swimming and diving all my life. I live in Duluth, Minnesota, so depending on where you live in Canada, It might not be that horrible for coming down to visit or shipping! I also have a Finis Wave monofin but I am willing to get another size if it would be easier for your tail designs!

I'm definitely interested. I currently only have my heavy silicone tail and a lighter neoprene tail would be perfect for dry events/quick change events. I have a foil monofin and a rapid with strap issues, but I'd be willing to purchase a monofin for the tail as well.

The monofin is completely up to you!! I want people to trust, as with most new tailmakers that have come and gone, taken money, false promises etc, I would NOT want your monofin sent to me unless you are 100% comfortable with that. My original plan is for the testers to send me cut out tracings of their monofins (a video or guide would show exactly how to do this) so I can make flukes that fit them. I'm brainstorming some closing methods as it's a lot easier for tails to dry when they can be opened from both ends.

Can you guys tell me if you would want latex or no latex on the top of the tail?

Yep, I think I'm interested! Knowing that you're a few months off, I swim multiple times a week in my pool during the spring and summer. My pool has pebble cement at the bottom and rock slabs around the pool, so if you need to test a heavy duty tail I can definitely help you out :)

My question is: will the monofin be sealed with glue or another material inside the tail or after use can it be taken back out in original condition? I have a Finis Competitor and I would hate to see it unusable, but I can definitely order a different fin if needed :)

Yes, I did add in at the end that it might not work for stiffer monofins, but as I state, I don't have one so I not sure how well it would work out. You could do it I think, with velcro snaps or buttons. I have no experience sewing neoprene, only spandex. I suppose if you have some scraps you can stitch one up and try it out.

Yeah I was actually planning to test something called snap tape. But the sewing lines by the edges of the monofin area is genius to keep it from rolling up. So smart!!

Size is a big issue. To ship a fabric tail from LA to Canada with a rapid it cost me 80 bucks and it was light. I would guess around 100

How often a week do you swim: I currently don't swim because I do not have a tail but upon getting one, I hope to swim 3 or 4 days a week.
Where do you swim, describe the surfaces, water, chemicals: I will be swimming in a chlorinated pool with a lot of kids and probably a lot of urine. But I will also be swimming in a freshwater lake and hopefully the ocean once or twice a year.
If you don't swim that often what would you use the tail for: I will probably also use it for dry shoots and whatnot, but I want to mer mostly for the physical benefits.

Why YOU would make a great tester: I have never had a tail so I would be able to look at yours from a noob standpoint. Someone who may not know the best way to take care of a tail and can put it through a lot of trial and error for a new tail-swimmer.

Just a small update. We have decided to use aquarium safe silicone Caulking instead of latex. Neoprene samples are in the mail, hoping to get them at the end of this week or early next week! Then the testing begins!

I have done a lot of reading on the aquarium grade caulking and we would not be sending out any tails that do not get to sit for 10 or say days after being finished. That way I know the product is fully cured and that vinegar smell goes away. Even if we offer rush orders they would not go out till that smell is gone from the tails.

I got my neoprene samples. The quality of the neoprene is good! It stretches alright one way and very well the other BUT it always snaps back to it's original shape, which is what I want. However they did not include the color that I am looking to order x.x

I would love to try this but I live almost on the other side of the world... We do have a posting place in America though...

I swim in a fresh water (drink able too) river and two kinds of pools, a chlorinated pool and a pool which uses only filters. I swim in the river in the summer once we have had two days of heat and the chlorinated pool almost once a week or when ever I go into town. And the pool which only filters when it's hot (as it has no heating and the room is build like a glass house to make it's own heat) and I'm staying with a friend.

I have a odd body shape so I guess that would help you, I have a tiny waist, larger thighs then my knees and ankles are super skinny.

Thanks Luna, that's exactly it. Because we are still looking for neoprene that will keep the prices low but would be good quality the picking of the testers is on hold. When we do get the correct material in, we will be picking testers then because we will want to know how the fabric works in say, salt water tropical areas and cold winter areas with only chlorinated pools. FOR EXAMPLE.

Fabric samples came in. One is a good maybe. It's thick but not super thick and stretches nicely. It's not bulky or buoyant like Neoprene but I need to find some way to make it so that the wears legs and ankles aren't super noticeable. I have ideas. Will be ordering enough fabric to make two tails after ECCC.

Ehhhh after thinking hard about my last post, the neoprene I wanted to use isn't that much of a stretch in price and if I order less then I was first intending then maybe the shipping wont be so high. Swimming spand: I will be able to swim year round I will be swimming in fresh water ,salt water , rivers and man made beaches to natural made gullies :pools or based a big hole in the earth with water can't remember what it's called; I will be on different textured areas to smooth pool surfaces to sabd, smooth Rock or ruffed Rock . I will also be in public pools I can swim it in anywhere between four to five days every week it just depend on how quickly it drys between each swim after it drys it will get used again :) I will be doing a lot of gigs and parties at local pools so it will be put through the ringer I promise you that . Now when getting into the tail I have a non slip mat under a yoga mat that is. About six and a half feet long also can use towels if extra porte tin is needed. I name sure to clean tails after each use to assure the tail last as long as it can . If this cleaning process last ten minute or three hrs so be it its worth it to insure the tail is unkept and last a long time .

Tails I have: I have a fabric tail I made and just got a Merrowfins tail still breaking the bugger in tho . The Merrowfins tail is neoprene inside silicone outside weighing 22 lbs in total

About me and what will make me a good tester: I might be new to this all but I am a natural born water fish I can be brutally honest to even friends when it is needed so I will make sure to tell you everything from how it fits to flow of it flakes easily r quickly. How powerful the tail is and or what needs fixed or tweeted . I will keep journal of what was done the area I swam in and how the tail did as well as any problems I had weighed it be drag or getting In or out of it . I would really like to be a tester. I have never been a tester for anything but I am very dedicated to a assure that the tail,maker knows everything is happening . When I set my heart and mind to something I do anything g to make sure it happens I would,love to be a tester for you . I can also give u the measurements I gave to Merrowfins if that helps

After this weekend, as long as everything goes to plan I will be able to order most of my supplies!! How exciting is that?! Which means the process will be under way after a month or so. And we will be picking tail testers pretty soon after the 1st. But for now, continue holding tight! I want to make sure that these tails are the best they can be for the price.

Rather rediculous question but just wanted to ask. Is mermaid size an issue? I'm a 53 waist and though I swim daily and do a lot of charity events in the summer I'd rather not waste your time as well as mine with applications if plus sizes aren't available. :D

I like that your name is Moongazer and a lot of the popular mermaid shows such as H2O and Mako mermaids deal with the moon and it's magical proterties. So why not a play on that? Something like Moon Magic Tails or Moonlight Sea, lol just off the top of my head.

If it's one I own or have access too (like if you own one of the 4 in that video) then you wouldn't need to mail me one. If I don't have it, I'd either need a tracing with the dimensions or it would need to be mailed to me. I plan to make each tail with a bottom that can be opened so the monofin can be removed for drying purposes and practicing.

I'm actually in a discussion with the neoprene company as they well... sent the material to my billing address instead of my shipping address. I would accept it normally but the brokerage fee's are more then half of the material cost (ups going from usa to can address is such a scam) and I told them I couldn't. Even with the refunded shipping cost I'm still losing money on their mistake haha.

So more likely I'll refuse the package and they will have to send it to the correct address this time. Silly companies. At least I have time. Still waiting on other supplies.
