Anyone have experience removing the blue side protectors on this? Do you just rip them off? They seem stuck. Also, is the back of the fin supposed to be textured? I can't find a picture online of the back, it the front. Thanks!!!!! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/06/50e33d6d4bf675b677708147cac27e8f.jpg

Its glued on. You could email whoever you bought it from and see what kind of glue remover to use.

I have a Competitor monofin and yes, the back is supposed to be textured. It helps with strength and stabilization. I'm not sure why you would want to remove the side protectors, but it will take some heavy duty glue remover to get those off. They're stuck on there for a good reason.

I have heard that you should remove them in silicone tailmaking because silicone won't cure while in contact with that rubber, but I would be too worried about it cutting through the fluke so I won't be doing that for mine.

Yeah i have a finis trainer and when I first got it the edges were deadly I actually had to sand it down. The rubber side bits are a good thing to have.

Thank you for your replies! The blue rubber was not listed as being on the fin, nor was it pictured in their stock photos. I didn't know if it would
a. hinder the silicone and b. make me slower in the water since the fin isn't slicing through the water.
I bought it directly from Finis.

Also, I was previously using a Rapid from Finis and I find that I'm having trouble with the foot pockets in the new Competitor. It feels nice and snug on my top foot and ankles but my toe space seems too loose and i can feel the strain on my down stroke. Anyone else have this issue?

You are feeling strain on your down stroke, I would guess, because it is a very different kind/size of fin than the Rapid. Have patience and keep working on it. You will build the muscle over time that will make the Competitor easier to use.
