View Full Version : Magictail monofin crack

I've had my Magictail for about four years now, but last time I used it a small crack appeared in the middle. When I swam, it would make a ... well, CRACKING sound, like the pieces moved separately and rubbed against each other. I haven't used it since as I'm afraid to damage it more.
Should I try to repair it, or contact Magictail about purchasing a new monofin? (the rest of the tail is fine — bit worn, but totally intact)

If I were you, I'd purchase a new monofin. Finfun monofins also fit magictails and are more flexible, they have a new model that's less likely to crack. Magictail hasn't really fixed the cracking problem although I've never dealt with it. Good luck! I know monofin cracking sucks

If your feet is within the size range, you could get a Mirage Rubber Mermaid Fin. It fits perfectly into the Magictails.
Here is a video of mine in one.

Thanks guys! Yeah, after joining this forum I read that Magictail is quite prone to cracking. Guess I've been lucky with mine so far!
Jaffa did you manage to trim the bits that stick out? I do model in the tail, so aesthetic's pretty important :P It's a great fit though!

Yes I did. And I stitched in a bit so that the fluke tips don't come out during swimming.

Cool! Ah, I just looked it up and it's too small for my feet. Finfun will do fine. Thanks for the help!

If you haven't got round to buying the fin yet, Magictail has a new looking monofin.
I can't find any more details about it. It says on the Magictail website that its made of different plastic. And I can't tell if the whole white piece is fabric with a sewn in monofin. Or that they made the monofin in a way to look like it was all covered.

They say it's made from rubber and "other plastics". Rubber isn't transparent though. I don't know what to make of it either.

There's no mention of it on their fb page either. I had thought they would announce such things in order to get more sales. I'll just have to wait till some kid buys the new ones and puts a review of it up on youtube.

I already ordered the FinFun monofin, but I'm curious to see the reviews of this. Maybe with rubber these foot pockets will be more comfortable? The last ones always cut into my feet, even though they fit perfectly.
Echidna: yeah they should probably start hiring a translator for their website xD In a casual environment any effort to speak another language is nice; in a professional one, though, it must be on point.

spellcheck would already go a long way
while I really like their tails, I cannot say anything good about the monofin.
I've never had any fin this uncomfortable, even when sized right, mostly because it puts the feet so close together.
I always came away with bruises or open cut feet every time I used it, which is why I replaced all original MT fins by now.

Completely agree. I adore the painted texture on their tails, the fabric, and especially the little bits at the tips of the fluke (they add so much realism IMO), but the bruising! Before I came on this forum I just thought that was part of being a mermaid and resigned myself to it. Open cuts on your feet though, really? That's pretty horrifying O.o
Now I'm so excited for my FinFun monofin to arrive to see if it's actually, y'know, not painful to swim with.
I gotta say I'm REALLY excited to get a stronger tail in the future, because if I can freedive at shipwrecks and swim hundreds of meters in the ocean with a MT monofin (totally not bragging or anything xP), what could I do with a Competitor?
