Price, Time, Quality? Is there a chart for this?

Buying a tail is a huge investment, not just in price but in time, emotions, and can even be a physical investment due to stress, getting in shape etc. I have dug through the reviews, joined the FB pages, researched, talked too...and I'm pretty sure I am more confused then ever.

Finfolk just stated they are pretty much churning out 1 tail every 12 days yet I have heard people have been waiting months and sometimes years for their tails. Mernation makes a quality product, are quick and I believe are one of the least expensive yet they lack some of the artistic finesse some of the other companies have. Merbella is of course stunning, if you want to wait 2+ years. Then their are other creators just starting to get a foot hold...so I was wondering, is there a reliable chart somewhere? A place we don't have to dig through forum after forum?

What is the average price for a tail?
What is the wait time for the tail?
What kind of quality are the tails?

Not everyone does reviews.
Those who tend to say something either love, love, love....or they are pissed. So it's hard to get an idea of the average costumer experience.

Hmmm good point. I know both finfolk and merbellas just don't have time to post photos of every tail they put out, and both are at a year waitlist.

I know someone ( Mer crazy maybe?) Put together a chart of some info mostly focused on what options they offered and cost etc. I wonder if that could be expanded on.

If you want to look at the COST of making a tail you need to add how much silicone they're using and how much that cost them to buy, same with the pigment and monofin. Making a brand new mold costs money as well, mernation charges if you want a different mold than what they offer because that takes a lot of time and extra molding materials. It'll also take longer for you to get your tail than the usual turnaround.

As a costumer my base cost, the absolute minimum that I would be willing to charge someone would be the cost of all materials plus hours put in so a satin steampunk tardis dress would cost you $300 JUST for the materials. That sort of dress will take me 10 hours to make at $20 an hour (which is less than what a costumer in the Guild charges) it that's another $200. So we're looking at a fully custom just for you dress that'll cost you $500 plus shipping. If I was doing all of that in a rented space there would be a bit more cost added in there as well

Materials for a silicone tail would start at what, $1000? not including the monofin or the time spent on the product (or any extras like dorsal, hip or heel fins)
With newer tail makers, things may be cheaper but they are also still learning for the most part so your product may have a few bugs. I honestly wouldn't trust a person who is selling a tail for less than the materials cost unless they have a very very good reason for it

I was talking more in the line of:
Name. Price. Time. Quality. Customer Service
Mernation. 1800+ 1 Month 4.5 stars. Fast
Merbella 2500+. 1 year+. 5 stars. Slow
Finfolk. 2500+ 1 year +. 5 stars. Slow

Etc etc, so people can have easy access to all of the makers and a general idea of what they may find with each without having to dig through tons and tons of sites, posts, reviews etc.

I did make a chart ^_^ Really need to update that thing, add new tail makers etc. Perhaps do a complete overhaul. I don't think I'll include the wait time or quality though, since wait times vary far too much (and I don't really have enough reliable sources to make an average) and I view 'quality' as slightly subjective, since one person's idea of quality can vary compared to someone else's, as well as variations between the slight variation of quality some tail makers have within themselves. Safer for me to just stick to the facts I think haha.
