Hi Everyone :-)

I think it is a popular thing all over the world to make new year's resolutions.
To my knowledge some of the most popular ones each year here in the Netherlands are (these are not mine by the way, just general popular ones):
1- Quit Smoking
2- Loose weight
3- More Exercising
4- Less alcohol
and so on and so on

I was wondering if anyone here makes new years resolutions or not.
I know there are many people who don't since they either find it doesn't help to have them or they just don't want to make them, or they feel it's too much pressure.
Normally i make a list of things i would like to accomplish in that year and i hang it up in my bedroom so i can look at it when i want to see if i am on track or if there are things i am neclegting that i really wanted to do/accomplish.
At the end of the year i look at it and cross of whatever i did accomplish.
I don't set a super high bar with things that are a long shot such as: becoming a millionaire" or something like that.
And i also don't feel the pressure to accomplish everything on my list.
It is just a list to help me focus on the things that are important to me.
So many times in life we get distracted by work, financial stress, family problems, health issues or other things that we loose focus of the things we really want to do, and that's why i make a list each year to help remind me of it.
For years i had on my list that i wanted to read at least 50 books that year, since i love reading.
Now that i am more and more busy with work and having a hubby and a dog to take care of i have lowered that number by A LOT.
On my list for this year i had some of the following things" to read more, exercise more, take more time for myself to relax and so on.
My hubby and I also had a mark for where we would like our business to be at, and what we wanted to accomplish with the business the past year.

Does anyone of you make new years resolution lists? Or maybe even just 1 or 2 things?
Would anyone be interested in putting a list in this thread before January 1st and then at the end of 2016 we look back at our lists?
Maybe it is a nice opportunity to help remind each other of the goals or dreams or other things that are important to them, to not neglect what it is that you love and would like out of the next year.

Happy Holidays everyone and i hope to hear from you :mermaid kiss:

Those are all great resolutions.
From what i have been reading, your English is not bad at all. And it will only get better from practice.
Being on the forum, writing and reading will help so much.
I know i have learned a lot the past year :-)

Oh I love the idea of making of list and resolution reminders. I'm honestly more likely to complete a resolution if I'm ocassionally reminded of it

Find a more stable job. I only work one day a week currently but I want something with more hours and money.
Move out and be independent.

I don't normally make resolutions, but I have the money for my new tail and I'm under my healthy weight. So my resolution is to get healthy again, which has been slowly getting easier.

I just realised I didnt even share a resolution! Mainly, I want/need to eat healthier. I dont even care about losing weight, but keeping up a healthier diet will really improve my lifestyle.

Also, I love Adalira how you used to have reading 50 books as your resolution. I love reading, but I havent read a book in so long that I might want to do this.

I love the lists idea! I usually have resolutions like graduate witha 4.0 (almost, 3.9) and go to college and get a job.

A list sounds great! Maybe my list will be
1. get a paid Gig by the end of the new year
2. Learn basic Japanese
3. Read 24 books (one book for every year I'm alive, plus I loved your 50 books idea Adalira)

Wow, this is great everyone! I love your resolutions!

@ Julianne, eating healthier will definitely be on my list this year as well. When you eat healthier you will automatically feel more energetic and are more likely to exercise or move around more, so that will be perfect for me :-)
50 books a year is A LOT and it was hard for me to accomplish this one but i did for years. 50 Books a year basically is about 1 book a week.
For me 50 books a year simply is not realistic anymore :-( so i need to lower the amount to like 20 or 25.

@ Mermaid Jaffa, loving you resolutions as well. Your resolutions will make a big difference in your life, a new job and a place of your own will probably turn your life around. :-)

@ Mermaid Mystery, what a great resolution. Getting to your healthy weight will mean you can get a new tail? How awesome! YAY!

@ Mermaid Wesley, your resolutions are awesome, "be more kind to myself" is one i need to put on my list myself and you reminded me of that, thank you!
I have found that when i read or listen (on youtube) to the affirmations and books of Louise Hay that i am more kind to myself and feel a lot more happy.
Your tail looks gorgeous so far and i think we all can't wait to see the finished result! :-)

@ Saren, your list is great! I just love the idea of reading 1 book for each year that you're alive!
And getting your first paid gig is a great one as well! I remember getting my first paid gig as a mermaid and it was awesome!
If you need help or ideas on how to get paid gigs just let me or any of the other mers on here now and we will be more than happy to help.
I come from a showbizz family and we do nothing but make sure we get booked for gigs all over the world :-)
I also love the learn a language resolution. I had that resolution for years as well and am happy i speak 5 languages now, i want to learn more though so your resolution is also a great reminder for myself :-)

I will be sure to share my definite list on decembre 31st :-)
Getting so many great ideas here!

That sounds so cool! And thank you for your offer! I'm really scared, but I know I want to make a career out of doing something I love, so I'm going for it. I'm going very slow though, because I want to be absolutely certain this is what I want and I'm not being swept off my feet (or fins). I plan on registering my business in April-ish. I'm looking forward to see your completed list!

I find that "resolving" to do something just sets me up for defeat, and then just feeling crappy for having failed. I made a resolution over 25 years ago not to make any more resolutions, and kept it for a very long time. One of my favorite radio shows, Studio 360, had a challenge for creative resolutions, and would follow a selection of people throughout the year to see if they kept their resolutions. I challenged myself to make a silicone mermaid tail and swim around Manhattan while reciting Jane Austen. I got featured on their blog, so I HAD to finish!

Well, I DID finish my tail, but I amended the Manhattan swim after reading an article in the fecal count of the water in the Hudson and East rivers, and dropped the Jane Austen recitation, because honestly, I could only quote a couple of movies! Hahaha!

So, instead of resolutions, I am making a list of goals to work towards. Yes, I know it's just another way of saying "I resolve to...", but in my mind, choosing to move toward a goal is a LOT more forgiving than holding my fins to the fire and ultimately failing miserably.

So, the goals I'm working towards during the new calendar are:

· Make better choices

· Improve my strength and flexibility

· Transition out of my soul sucking job and make my livelihood as a full time artist and tailmaker.

· Not waste my time and energy on petty shit, because if losing so many loved ones in 2015 has taught me anything, it's that life is brutally short and it can all be gone in a blink.

It all goes so fast. Wish me luck.

@ Saren, it is a very good idea to take it slow to make sure this is what you want to do and that this is what you want to commit to. I am very excited for you either way :-)

@ Pearliemae, i see the resolutions as goals myself as well, i just call them resolutions since it is a list i make decembre 31st and that's what it is generally called here but to me it is also simply a list of goals for the next year to help keep me focused on what is really important to me.
I love the list of goals you have for the next year, all 4 are things that will improve your health, lower stress and live the life you love.
I wish you good luck on your adventure in the new year :-)

I've been thinking about this, "2016 will be a year in which I..." and didn't think to call it resolutions. So, maybe it's semantics, but I'll stay with 'goals for the year'.

2016 will be the year in which I...

- treat myself as I treat others, which is a hell of a lot better than I've been treating myself lately.
- take up workouts of some kind again. Health issues are pretty much under control or solved, my only excuse at this point is... no excuse. There were reasons for a long time there, but now, I often just don't wanna. :waah: I feel so much better, and I feel even better when pursuing physical fitness. So I must DO the THING that will create the results I want. I got out of the habit. Must get back in.
- take the weight of the world off my shoulders. Stop worrying about many things I can do nothing about. Worry might not even be the word; I'm not fretting. But there are some things I can do nothing about and am going to stop trying, and forgive myself for things which make sense only to me if I say them, so I won't say.
- finish my editing and submit the manuscript to at least one publisher

Good luck and godspeed and all that to all of you. Or strength and determination to you all. Make it so. #jeanluc

Thank you for starting the thread, I was hoping someone would. :D And maybe in a few months, people can check in and share what they've been able to accomplish or begin to accomplish.

My goals for this coming year are:
To exercise more
To work on improving my business
Be a better friend
To train my dogs better

I agree with the 'resolutions' bit like Pearlie said. When I stopped smoking 15 years ago, I told myself I was stopping.....not quitting. Then, if I had a cigarette......I wasn't defeating the purpose of quitting. I just had to stop again. And it worked.

My new years resolutions would be as well a few wishes:
- Lose weight, about 20 kg
- Eat healthier
- Going back to swimming at least once a week
- Going to start with running
- hopefully start with my silicone tail
- and if nature allows it, become a mother

It's been about 3 months into the new year, how is everyone doing on their goals?

I've had three goals
1. Get a paid gig: not yet but I do have several volunteer gigs lined up and that makes me feel just as accomplished
2. Learn basic Japanese: getting better, although I've been picking up Japanese from my students and now sound like a child.
3. Read 24 books: I've read 5 books thus far. Currently bored with the story I'm on but I hope to finish within the next few days.

I hope everyone is having a good day!
