With my first tail a success, I'm ready to continue trying new things, making new molds and making more tail! This thread is basically just a place to keep track of my progress and work on new ideas :)

Wow what incredible sculpting! The scales are so detailed, almost like a mandala! Are you thinking of using the scales for an entire tail or just spread about as decoration?

Thanks julianne, adalira! The plan is to have a whole tail with the detailed scales :) I'm going to sculpt a few different variations and see which ones look best repeated in the scale pattern

Well good luck! I'm excited to see what you come up with and how they look all together! It will surely be a one of a kind tail!

Not a tail, but a way to practice 2 part molds for my fins, may I present cuttlefish!

You should check out her thread, she does some AMAZING sculpts! I can't wait for her to finish her sea serpent tail! http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?9852-Theobromine-s-sea-serpent-silicone-tail!/page12

That is incredible! So realistic :) Makes me want to do some resculpting on mine to make it more realistic. I've been silently stalking that forum waiting haha I never saw this cuttlefish though!

I posted the cuttle in my Etsy thread, which I have been shamefully lax about updating lately. I think yours is cute, but I have a couple, erm, anatomical-accuracy tips if you'd like them.

I would love them so much!

Main thing is, look at a lot of reference photos from all angles so you're familiar with the important anatomical characteristics. For example, cuttlefish only have eight arms and two feeding tentacles, for a total of 10 appendages. It looks like you've got a few more than that on your guy, from what I can see.

Okay here's cuttlefish take 2! I think he looks way more anatomically accurate, what do you guys think?

Pretty! Your fins are very cute. I've always loved the combo of blue and yellow.
