So next week I will be traveling to Ontario (hmu if you want to hang out) and I can't take my silicone tail. Today I picked up some Lycra at JoAnn's and I will start working on it tomorrow. This will be going over my black merfin.

Question, do most people making tails with merfins leave the bottom open, or do you fold it up and put it in through the body of the tail? I've seen both methods done but I'm not sold on either yet.

I have made mine with a semi closed fluke. I call it the Open Closed Fluke.

That sewing method is a really good idea. Would velcro hold up underwater though?

Thanks guys! And from what I've heard if you sew the Velcro onto the tail it should work fine, but I don't know how well it holds up after a lot of underwater use.

Tail is done! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/02/7da7987464df77741894800d080f7936.jpg I may add more to it in the future but this is as good as it gets right now. the bottom is mostly sewn shut, but there are 5 tiny snaps to keep the monofin covered.
