Hello all I need some help or suggestions on something.

ok so I made a Spandex swimwear tail. Its my first tail. Anyways so I want it to look as realistic as possiable and i can achive that by painting on it.

Below is the color closest to my tail

My question is, what kind of paint do I put on it. I wanna hand paint it Not airbrush, and from what I read i cant use anything that I need to use heat to set on this kinda fabric. but kind of paint and coloration i should use would be helpful.

Hello,
When I made my fabric tail I cut out foam circles with the sticky backs, starting from the top and working my way down I placed the foam circles on the tail. once the entire tail was covered i then started at the bottom and traced out the foam in lumiere paint (It is a heat set paint but I didnt set it. I let it dry for 24 hours and it was good, some parts have peeled but nothing crazy) my sister heat set hers by turning it inside out, placing a hand towel down and on low heat running an iron over it. it looks great and it doesnt chip at all. after one layer was done we would peel away the foam and then it looked like a scale! I'll try to post pictures soon :)

what do you mean stretch it? i herd stuffing the tail as full as you can get it before painting is that what you mean?

OH my JOsh i will deff be sure to try that. that is an amazing idea. I assume you can get that kinda paint from any craft store correct?

Stuff it, stretch it, whatever you decide as long as the fabric is stretched when you paint it. Otherwise, the paint makes the fabric go all funny and weird looking.

I used a duct tape dummy filled with garbage bags. if you try to paint it while flat it will turn out nice but when you put the tail on, the fabric will stretch but the paint will not, making it crack and chip.

Question for ya both. When you do a coloring on your tail you want to go lighter with the lumiere paint then the actual tail color to give it that 3d
affect right?

I did three different colours, giving it light medium and dark contrasts but it's really up to you

Do u stretch out the tail when painting it and do u leave it stretched out u Tim dry or after painting do u take it off let it dry then iron

Yes I stretched it when I painted and left it stretched when it dried. When ironing I stretched it as I went.
