Hello everyone, I'm Melusine! I haven't made an introduction post yet so I decided that I might as well.

I'm an 18 year old Red Snapper Mermaid that enjoys digital art, sweets, video games, and going to the aquarium.
I also really like sharks, ghosts, and pirates a whole lot. I've loved mermaids and the ocean ever since I was a little kid. I used to read lots of books about sea life as a child, and at one point had a little plastic pink box full of toy sharks i would carry around with me everywhere I went. All these years later, I'm still in love with the sea ,and all its inhabitants. I've gotten to the point where I've been collecting various accessories and things to wear on my body in my every day life that are ocean themed/mermaid inspired. (It's actually become something of an obsession i mean you would not believe how much stuff I have bookmarked with the intent to expand my mermaid wardrobe send help) I'm currently a freshman in college, and trying to save up for my first silicon tail. I've used monofins a bit before, and I actually prefer swimming in that way to the standard swim team thing I feel too embarassed not to do when I'm at the pool. I already have an idea for how I want it to look, but for now I'm still saving up for that dream... but you best believe when I finally do get my fins on one im gonna be like:

Anyway!.. uh.. what else? Oh! I'm currently working on a project that is being fueled by my mermaid enthusiasm that I may post more about later! Well, that's pretty much it! uh... please be nice to me I guess?

I was actually named for the french story of Melusine, who was supposed to have been a half human half water spirit. The story is actually really sad. Melusine was the oldest daughter in a set of triplets. Her father was a human king, and her mother was the fairy Pressyne. Pressyne felt betrayed when the king walked in on the birth of his daughters (there are a bunch of rules if you marry a spirit apparently), and fled the kingdom with them. Melusine and her sisters kidnap their father later on and interrogate him. Their mother is so angry that she gives each of her daughters a curse. Melusine's curse is that she grows a fish tail every saturday, and must spend the whole day bathing. At some point, she falls in love with and marries a french prince (or maybe he was a count?) and makes him swear to never bother her on saturdays, and that he can never see her bathing. He eventually begins to suspect that Melusine is being unfaithful to him, and eventually decides to spy on her in her bathing chamber in the castle she went to on saturdays. He is shocked to discover his wife with the tail of a fish, splashing and singing to herself happily. He kept the secret to himself until one very sad day. He was very upset having learned that one of their sons had murdered another one of their children. When Melusine attempted to console her husband, he lashed out at her in front of his entire court. He said something along the lines of, " this is your fault. you've tainted my bloodline, you serpent!". Melusine was heartbroken. Before he could apologize, she sprouted wings and flew off, never to be seen again. There are many variations of the story, but that is just a simplified version of what I was always told. Fun fact: She's actually who the mermaid on the starbuck's logo is supposed to be of. There are a lot of different reasons why she may have two tails in that particular depiction.
