Possible To Make a Custom Fiberglass Monofin?

Was looking into trying something more unique for a tail project (an extended-base tail), and wasnt sure what to use for the blade. I want the fluke to be HUGE (think Mermaid Lindens fluke). Because of the larger size, I obviously couldn't use a cut pre-existing blade. Polyethylene, polypropylene and fiberglass are the only materials I have seen used in monofins, so I am assuming those are the best to use. I know fiberglass is what is used in the Competitor monofin (and other more rigid blades for freediving) and decided that for an extended-base tail I would need all the propulsion I could get. But is it even possible to cut fiberglass from home? And, if it is, are there specific safety precautions with cutting this type of material? If it is too much more of a hassle, I figure I could just get a more thicker, rigid blade of either of the other materials. Just thinking and trying to figure out what would be best as I try to conquer an extended tail.

Sure. A hacksaw will cut it. The blade will be useless for any other job afterward, but it will cut the fiberglass.
Do it outside, and don't get the powder in your eyes or lungs.
How are you planning on doing the foot pockets?

Since this would be for an extended tail, there wouldnt be foot pockets connected to the blade itself. Still tossing around ideas, but mostly thinking of using a rod or some sort of stiff material to connect the blade to the feet. Still tossing around ideas though, so I have no clue what I will go with. I just wanted to make sure cutting a fiberglass blade would be possible first

Consider using a strip of fiberglass to run between the fin and the feet. By trying different widths of glass (OK, everyone in the biz calls "fiberglass reinforced plastic" just "glass") you can get a measured amount of flexibility.

Hmm, that might work. I would be worried about that piece snapping though. I would have to test how thin it could be to see if it would even work for my needs.
