Take a look at this Yahoo Answers screenshot. I can't believe this got picked as best answer and got three thumbs ups. I really wish people would see mermaiding and anything else different for that matter, as a hobby and not some crazy obsession that's gonna get us all in mental hospitals. The screenshot doesn't show it, but if you were to scroll down the question, there was an answer about mermaiding being a "perversion" and calling it "weird" is a nicer way of saying worse things. Excuse me? The majority of us are normal people with lives, jobs, and in school/college. It's sad people are so quick to judge without doing research or taking a closer look at things in this generation. :mad:

Do you base your decision at least partly on what the majority of them said?

Because this is similar.
Of course there are trolls, and for things that can be researched are better ways, but to just get an honest answer out of common people you encounter on the street or, you know, at the pool, yahooanswers aren't that bad.

LOL, the OK answer is mine! I just saw this thread, and I know it's ancient, but sometimes I answer honestly questions in Yahoo Answers about mermaiding. Gotta spread the love, specially with all the bad rep mermaiding is getting lately.

One wonders how Yahoo decides which answer is the best answer. The #1 answer (the nasty one) has 3 up votes and 6 down votes. Talia's answer has 6 up and 2 down, yet is not listed as the "best answer".

Because the "Best answer" is usually chosen by the asker. At least that's how it was before.
Maybe it was someone who was bullying and the response made him/her laugh. It's Yahoo Answers after all.

I used to answer honestly too questions about absinthe, trying to clear up myths and share real facts, but I stopped doing that mainly because people were not interested in the truth. They just wanted a confirmation of the (usually erroneous) fact they wanted to clarify.
