The Nautical Mergathering at Alexander Springs in May

This group is for all the mers, pirates, or fae that would like to go to this meetup. This will be a once a year type thing, and I may have it in different places once in a while, but for this year, I have it at Alexander Springs. It depends on what everyone wants to do really as far dressing up. I'm hoping to have a lot of fun and make new friends as I am hoping others make new friends too. I haven't really figured out the food and drinks, but I know that I will bring plenty of water at least. There has been talk of everyone who wants to bring food to bring enough for them and a few others just in case. I really don't know about what I'll have to do to make it successful sense it's my first time trying to plan a really big meet up. The meet up is open to everyone and it starts o May 28th and ends on the 29th. I'm hoping the extra day helps with people that would like to camp or can't make it on Saturday. This is supposed to be a general meetup so we can have fun. However, I spoke with a lifeguard that wanted to make it more of a festival or something, I don't know it's all up in the air, and that may mean that I host the event only there or not at all. Like I said, this is all new to me, and I'm just trying to host a meet up once a year to make it easier for the Florida mers to meetup and have fun. I'm not expecting a lot, but I figured sharing it on here could help let everyone know just in case they want to show up. I'm hoping for it to be a lot of fun, and the spring is bound to be a bit crowded, so it might be best to come early. May and April are going to be nice and warm and Floridians like to enjoy the water when it gets hot out. It may eve be the first weekend of Summer Break. I hope that helps with the younger mers. Anyways, I hope I see a big turn out. I've been planning this sense like September or October on Facebook. It was rough for me last year, and I understand if not many show up.

I'm happy you guys are happy to see me. I'm still struggling with the guilt I feel from my mood swing that happened over the summer and into the fall. I can't wait to see you guys again. After my mood swing seriously knocked me down. I feel like I'm building myself back up again. I really am grateful to know that people still want to meet up with me. It means a lot.

My tail is getting modified by Merrowfins or Matt, and I can't wait until he finished it. I've been losing so much weight doing this that my tail stopped fitting right. The modifications should make it a full silicone, and I think it's worth it because he's doing it for not much more than what he would charge for resizing and a new paint job. What he's doing for me is incredibly nice considering my current debt and car repair payments. There won't be a problem paying for it all as long as I'm working. It's just taking a lot of time saving the money I need to get everything taken care of.

Oh, one more thing, if the first opportunity to show off my newly modified tail doesn't work out. The meetup will be my first time trying it out.

As far as eating and/ or things to do, it will be whatever we bring unless the lifeguard I talked to manages to figure out how to host something bigger. I am hosting a meet up for people that want to have fun and all. Whether or not this becomes a festival type thing with booths and all. That's still up in the air.

This is the newly refined description for the meet up on Facebook. All I know for sure on my end is that once a year, I want to go to the spring, and I want to invite people to come hang out. I'm not expecting this to turn into something big because that is not what I'm working on. However, I was at the springs in the fall last year and a lifeguard bounced the idea around me that booths could be set up. I just want to meet up and have fun, and I know that I don't want to get involved with booths and stuff. I just figure I'll be open about that idea getting bounced around at least once.

As far as food and things, I really think it should be whatever everyone wants. A grill might actually be a pretty cool thing to have. I'm going to bring waters, and I was thinking of buying water guns to play with or for the younger people there at least. I wonder what you guys think about that? Also, I've heard people suggest a potluck type thing where we bring stuff if we want to eat and some extra for others.

I hope you guys aren't in opposition to me opening this event up to more people besides mers. I think it would be fun if a pirate group showed up or something. So I want to leave that open.

Anyways, I'm going to try to do this once each year. Hopefully on the same dates provided weather and everything cooperates.

On a serious note though, is there any chance we can move the location to Manatee instead? The campsites there have water and power, and it would cut like 2 hours off the drive for Miss Marlin and I. The drive down to Alexander is a killer coming all the way from Pensacola.

Manatee Springs doesn't seem like it's too far away, but I can't imagine the drive being easy for me to do back and forth for two days. If I did move the location, I would probably also make it a 1 day type thing. I'm not saying that whether or not I can be there both weekends should decide whether or not people meet up again the next day if they want. I just think it would be silly to try and host a meetup and not be there both days.

Anyways, I will be willing to move it because I would love to explore a new spring, but I want to know what everyone thinks first. I've been planning it for Alexander for a long time, and I don't want to say it will be somewhere else until enough people give the okay. I wish I knew how to set up a poll.

Sense I'm trying to meet up with people once a year around the same time, I can always try to go to springs in different areas each year to accommodate others. One of the big reasons for me wanting to meetup once a year around the same time is because when I was struggling in the Pod of the South group. The better part of me understood the advice I was receiving even if I couldn't show that I understood. Picking different locations each year might help people in different areas have an easier time from one year to the next. I think that's a good idea.

I get what you are saying with having to change plans midway, I understand. If it was a travel issue, Miss Marlin and I will have to camp out at either location, and would be up for sponsoring a few extra tents on our site. We did that last year for Mermaid Celeste, her friend who's name escapes me, and the photographer last time; had smores and everything. As long as tents come too, we don't mind sharing the site.

From a legacy stand point, we've done Alexander twice now. The first FL Pod meed I was involved with was there, and then last years meetup. Last year, we had plans to visit Manatee on our way back home, but the rain kept us from leaving early enough, and we had to pass.

Also- I realize I didn't answer the grilling question: We will, if we can get numbers to plan for. We kinda got ambushed with a ton of people last time and had to make a last minute food run. I'd prefer not not have to do that again. Also-we don't really know how to plan for vegetarians or vegans; if someone would offer to help with that it would be much appreciated. Miss Marlin and I are meat-eating heathens and don't know how to properly accommodate for those diets or what would approximate for a hotdog grill. :D

Well, morning star and Quorn are oaky brands for stuff you can buy in the freezer for the grilling issue. I'm not picky, Vegan's don't eat anything that came from an animal and vegetarians simply don't eat meat. You know, fish, pork, chicken, and beef are all big nos for vegetarians. I will be honest and I'm more of a piscatarian than a vegetarian. I occasionally eat salmon or shrimp, but it's not often. It really isn't often enough to be a major part of my diet. I don't eat any other fish to be honest unless I'm going out to eat. The whole reason for that is Salmon and Shrimp are common in restaurants and I used to eat out a lot with family.

As far as picking the location, I personally love to try new things, but for me, a yearly meet up would be awesome if it was traditionally somewhere. However, I'm open to it being a moving event. After, there are a lot of people spread out all over the place, and this might be the easiest way to plan a meet up so that people have a year to plan for it and an easier time driving every now and again. I could see us changing the location if we could come up with a constant pattern like Alexander, Manatee, and other springs and rotate them.

I really can't wait to be able to hang out with everyone again, but I'm worried about be financially prepared for everything I want to bring. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens, but I hope that it won't bring anyone down if I can't bring everything I want to. I'm gonna try, but I figured I should let everyone know. I just made a post in the group concerning my spare monofins. If we can somehow get him a fabric tail fro Finfun, I can lend him one of my monofins. I even have an extra fabric tail, but I would have no idea if it will fit him because it was made with my measurements before I lost weight. It's in good shape only because I can't use it because it doesn't fit. My biggest concern is that I would have no idea if it would fit or not. I know the monofins are all the same size for adults. I really do hope someone asks to use them because there is a good chance they will be just sitting around if they don't.

Next year, if you can't manage to get a tail when the meet up starts to come up but you can make it, I can lend you one of my monofins if it makes it easier to get the tail skin separate. I can't do anything about the tail skin because I wouldn't be able to get a tail skin that would fit everyone. That's way too expensive. However, you can buy the tail skins a lot cheaper without the monofin, so that might help a little. All you would have to do is buy your own monofin later after the meetup. I hope this helps.

So far, I have two rafts for the meetup, two monofins to lend, and a pair of size 15 bifins to lend, and I'll try to bring waters and maybe a snack to the meet up too. I hope this helps to make this a fun meetup.

I also think that Alexander Springs should be the spring each year for traditional reasons. I set up a group on Facebook called Merfolk Meetups. I hope that helps to provide a place for organizing smaller meetups in places that might help make it easier on mers to meet up more often in places that are easier to get to. The reason I'm not going to change the location each year is because everyone will have an entire year to plan for the meetup.
