So ever since seeing the mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs in FL my daughter and I have become obsessed with mermaiding. We are getting our first tails in the next few weeks (love getting taxes back). what are the best tails to go with? I love how silicone tails look and how real they look but not sure how easy to swim in for first time mermaids. I was talking to Mertailor about it but they didn't seem to be much help with my questions. what are the best monofins? I dont want one that is too floppy but want one that is easy to swim in? I dolphin kick in the pool all the time so im pretty used to the motions. Also I want to start training my eyes to be open underwater and holding my breath. How can I start? what tips do you have for first time mermaids? Thanks so much

Yes, there are issues with Mertailor. For your first tail, I'd recommend a fabric tail. They come with monofins. Look at Fin Fun, Sun tails, and The two tails. I'm sure others will recommend things too.

I'd suggest you read some of the sticky threads found here http://mernetwork.com/index/forumdisplay.php?13-General-Costume-Tails-Discussions
Lots of good information comparing the pros and cons of different types of tails.

I have to second a fabric tail, I have several FinFun tails. They're great fun, easy to get into and an inexpensive way to see if getting a silicone tail is worth it. All the suggestions here are great, my biggest suggestion, do your research!:)

I wouldn't recommend the mertailor, personally. There's lots of tailmakers- list here (http://mernetwork.com/index/content.php?133-mermaid-tailmakers) in case you didn't see it in the nav bar :) The resources page is an excellent place to start (here's a link (http://mernetwork.com/index/content.php?152-The-Merfolk-Resource-Page), but it's also in the navbar). There's a whole thread on there dedicated to why we don't recommend silicone for your first tail, if you want to check out the challenges that can come with one. Hope that info is helpful! :)

I would definitely start with fabric! It's cheaper, safer, etc. I've used lots of monofins and I have to say the wave/rapid monofins are my favorite for price and effectiveness. There are plastic ones that come with fin fun tails and a few others and they work but aren't too powerful. There's lots of makers on etsy too.
As far as breath holding s d eyes... There's a lot of stuff on the forums but a quick tip is always have a spotter in case you pass out and chlorine will sting your eyes. Lol

Finfun is very popular and highly rated. Magictail.de is another option. It's very similar in shape, size, and design. The biggest differences are that magictail.de has a nicer pattern, better propulsion in the monofin, and is less comfortable than the finfun.

Thanks so much. This is all very useful information. I'm in the process of researching tails. And will deff take what you all have said into consideration.
