Mermaid Crowns - Swimming underwater tips??!?

So I've got a bunch of shells and pretty things and I really want to make a mermaid crown! But I was wondering if anyone has any tips for what kind of crown base stays on the best?

A friend of mine (http://lisakelleher.com) designed me a tiara just for swimming! It has both a comb at the top and loops for attaching bobby pins all around the band. It's also sort of a headband style, so it holds my hair out of my face when I'm swimming and surfacing.

I'll get a picture of it when I get home.
