Hey there finned friends!


My name is Monika, but I'm known as moniee on the lands of the internet.
I'm a recently awoken mermaid (or naiad - not sure yet :) ) wannabe, meaning that back in the 90's I was one of the weird kids putting two legs into one leg of my shiny vivid turqoise leggings and watch Splash with a massive drool.


I'm a graphic designer from London, and I have quite a few hobbies other than my newly found mersmerising one.


BJDs - ball jointed doll collecting. I make clothes and accessories for my dolls, such as feather wings and shoes, hats etc. Then, sculpting. Actually my first sculpture was a mermaid which is such a coincidence (not). And my most recent hobby which kept itself strong for the last ~4 years, historical costuming. I sew my own recreations of these antique dresses, wear them and freak people out on the streets. (I'm sure I'm gonna love mermaiding, too *grin*).


I like to think about myself as a diy-person, I love everything crafty so obviously I'm thinking about making my own tail at some point (fabric to start with but I have daydreams about a nice shiny silicone one too) but my research has shown that it is a M E S S Y process.... not suitable when you live in a room you hire in your live-in landlady's house. *londonerproblems*

Welcome! Beautiful photo and dress! I am in college right now for graphic design. :) I am sure there are other graphic designers on here and most of the mers on here are artists as well as costume makers. That is great that you are a DIY person. I want to do more DIY projects, but I guess I just don't know where to start haha. Making historical accurate costumes sounds amazing as well!

Alea, way to go! Graphic design is the best :D I love my job, even though it can be a leedle bit boring sometimes, working in an insurance company in London as the in house GD. But I might change into something more creative over the coming years :)

Sybelle, I do however it is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally old and I don't show it off too much just because now from the several years' distance I can see al the faulties with it! Here it is though.
I made the harp as well, from air drying clay - that's the only part I'm quite proud of atm :D
