Hi there, I'm starting my tail making business and am in need of clients! I will be making full silicone swimmable mermaid tails for a minimum price of $3,000 AUD (This is for a basic tail). Custom designed tails will range. At the moment I am offering glitter coats, blended waist lines, hand sculpted scales (this isn't an add on but a standard for all tails), Custom flukes and opaque fins for realism if desired. Opaque fins will be transparent so to look like a real fish fin. if you are interested and would like to work with me on creating your dream please send me an email at jemamaegriffiths@gmail.com. Tails will take a maximum of 9 months to complete. 3 places open. All tails come with a professional Monofin inside unless you would like one without. If you need help designing your tail, I can also do that too.
Prices are as follows:
Basic Tail with Basic fluke..... $3,000 AUD
Custom Fluke.......................... $3,500 AUD
Fins (Basic)............................. $150 AUD (each)
Fins (Custom).......................... $180 AUD (each)
Blended waist line.................. $300 AUD
Glitter Coat............................. $50.00 AUD
Opaque Fins............................ $400 AUD
Custom Colours...................... $100 AUD
Please, if you have any questions at all feel free to ask me :) I am happy to answer all of your questions.

Do you have any photos of tails you've previously made? With the way things have turned out with new tailmakers of late, you'll be really, really hard-pressed to find anyone willing to put $3000+ towards a tailmaker who has no examples of their work to show.
::edit:: Also, minor nitpick here--
Opaque fins will be transparent so to look like a real fish fin.
If the fins are transparent, then... they're not opaque. Opaque literally means that no light shines through it, while transparent means that light goes through easily and can be really clearly seen through. :P

Hi Tieri! :) I have examples of scale sheets that I have made before and a few other examples. 35625 3562635627 The fluke is a miniature and not full size.

Have you ever actually made a whole silicone tail?

So... Have you actually made a complete silicone tail before? Actually completed a full-sized fluke? Because if that's the case, I'm not going to lie, that's kind of... concerning.
Don't get me wrong, I think you're off to a great start here-- I love the look of scale sheets made up of different-sized scales, but this looks more like early-stages conceptual work than anything ready to start a business and take orders for. A lot of people are going to be really wary of jumping on something like this so early on.
Generally, the best advice is to make a tail or two of your own first, get at least a usable prototype together, do stress-testing and work out the kinks first. You definitely don't want to be taking orders at this point. :/

Do you have examples of full finished tails? Painted and all?

Ok, to everyone asking, I’m not going to lie. I have not made a full silicone tail before, but I have done extensive research into full silicone tails and tested my theories. I also live with a professional sculptor who has very good experience working with silicone, latex and moulds etc. She will be creating the tails with me and she has completed degrees in art school. The reason for asking for orders is to build up a folio of tails for the business. I believe this is the way to start. I have researched prices, for materials and also had a look at what other tail makers charge. My cost also includes shipping. As for myself, I have also studied an arts degree- Painting, drawing and design as well as colour. My goal is to be entirely honest to those who ask questions and to create an exceptional product.

I am a creative person and I have no desire to scam or cause problems related to fraud as I am not that type of person. I am trustworthy and dedicated to the ideas I have. :) I've also noticed there aren't a lot of makers where I come from. :/

I don't want to discourage your passion to create, but it's very unlikely that anyone will want to spend $3000 AUD on a leap of faith.
As converted to USD for example, that's more than a few tailmakers charge who have turned out several tails with success.
You may try creating one first as an example. After that, maybe offer one at cost for someone?
Good luck, I do hope to see what you create! :)

I'm sorry to say researching isn't enough. You have to be able to put your money where your mouth is and show past work before you even think about doing it for money. A lot of people research how to sew but they Doesn't mean that they can and is the same way for tail makers.
Make a full tail to start off your portfolio then make a few more THEN you can start offering them for sale

If you want to make a business out of this then you need to put your own money into it before you can start taking orders. You'll have to bite the bullet and make a tail out of your own pocket and test it. Maybe offer one or two more or less at cost, as Calizaire mentioned.
No one's saying they don't trust your abilities, but making a tail is a huge undertaking and many, many mers have taken orders and then disappeared because things didn't go as planned/it was too much for them to handle. The community is not going to shell out for brand new tail makers until they have some solid evidence that they can deliver. Again, it's nothing to do with your skill or your trustworthiness. It's just how it is.
Really excited about having another silicone tail maker located in Australia, but sadly I have to agree that you will have trouble finding someone to outlay $3k when you can’t show them any finished works. Don’t give up, can’t wait to see your progress :)

I took a leap of faith on Merbellas and was their first client.... for 1100$ lol. cost of materials basically and with the understanding that it might totally fail. you def gotta make and test a few before people can pay full price.

I agree with what everyone else said. Tailmaking can be a lot harder than you think. Even for really artistic people. Especially working with silicone, it has it's own set of challenges. Researching is not enough- you have to DO the thing to really know how it's done! Anyone here who has made a silicone tail can tell you that's true.
The typical way to get into this is to 1) Make AT LEAST one prototype and test it out for a while for quality testing 2) Sell several tails at-cost to build your skills, work out your kinks, and build a portfolio and reputation 3) Then start selling full-price tails.
A lot of people on here will make a thread in the tailmaking section to show the progress of their prototype, to build excitement for their work as well :)
The last time someone sold full-cost tails without making a prototype first (she too was very artistic and had a lot to show in that manner from other projects), she got overwhelmed and dropped off the face of the earth, hasn't been heard from since. She stole at minimum $5,500 from members of the community. So you'll probably have a lot of people who are cautious for that reason, and will want to see you complete the above steps first before ordering a full-cost tail from you.
Good luck! :)

You have to be your own first client. No one is going to put out that kind of money for you to test your theories. Doesn't matter how artistic you are, what degree you may have, or what your roommate does. That is an impressive price list, but until you have video of someone swimming in a completed tail, you're going to have quite the wait.
