Mermaid Danielle

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to offer some advice: Today there were two new profiles created on MerNetwork under names that are identical to my own username and gmail address on this website (the names are also used on the other websites I am present on). I don't want to cause problems with the new members, who I am in no way affiliated with, but I am concerned with how our public personas may conflict. Does anyone have any advice? I'm not sure how to proceed...

Not to sure about similar names on the forum. I suppose that is why I kept my name as Little Orca instead of changing it to my mersona name. I know two mermaids in person who use the same mermaid name I do when performing. That has caused me to want to change mine for the same reason you wish to ensure that yours is protected on here.
I hope someone can give you some advice!

Hmm it's curious that 2 would be created on the same day? Are they both active and do they look like 2 different ppl? Someone might have been trying to make an account and then accidentally made 2 accounts. Danielle is not too common of a name but common enough. It's harder to claim a common name and your brand than a mythical made up mername.
You could simply send a friendly welcome message the user(s) and mention that you don't want to the two of you to get confused, so maybe there's a way you can differentiate yourself. Maybe one or both of you could add some extra sparkle to your name that makes it stand out more.
Oh what's in a name?! Well a lot apparently. I know how you feel as my name is Lauren and there were always sooo many Lauren's in every class growing up, and being Mermaid Lauren would just not be unique enough so I'm still working on my mername. I have experience in working in branding so I know the importance and issues that can go with coming up with a good name. In the end things like if a good Instagram and .com domain are available, and how easy it is to spell and search is a big decider for me. These days having congruity across social platforms is super important.

ask Iona because people have done that before as either a) scammers or b) trying to harass someone
someone tried to pose as mermaid kylee from weeki to give her a bad rep. They were identical except for one letter in the email. Iona can check IPs and follow up. it's very suspicious

I made up a new name when I started mermaiding because there was already a mermaid with my real name

I decided to change my mermaiding name when I found another person with the same name as me. I understand if you really like your mer-name and don't want to change it. But in my case, I didn't like "Waterlilly", I didn't really feel like it was very me. Sheira Seastar feels more me, I guess.
