Hello, I'm Grandmer Orchid

Hello All,

I am just finding my way back here after signing up a bit ago. I consider myself a Mer-Jelly as I am a jellyfish and a mermaid. Sometimes I merge the two. I am a mermaid under a large Jellyfish hat. I am an older mermaid and consider myself a grandma mermaid. I have a sea pavilion and I read sea stories to children and educate them about water safety and Ocean conservation. I do a lot of volunteering but I also work mermaiding for two cities. I work in a beach town in Long Beach Washington as either a jellyfish or as Grandmer Orchid the mermaid in my sea pavilion in the summer months. In the winter months I was currently hired by Yuma Az parks and recreation as an instructor. This means I work with preschoolers at a preschool and also work as a mermaid teaching or entertaining around the area. I also work with differently abled young adults.

I volunteer at an Assisted living center here in Yuma and the very first event I did was to go and sing to/with them as a mermaid and then swim in their pool. I now am trying to bring them one event a month but not always as a mermaid.

I am supposed to be retired but I think I now work harder than when I was fully employed.

I am considered a master costumer in the sci fi circuit, although, I don't feel like I have mastered anything LOL. So I am often in costume as I work or volunteer.

I am originally from Portland Oregon and you can often find me hanging out with my mer friends at Una's Fantasea Traveling Cove. I also like to attend events with the Pirates of Portlandia.

I wear fabric tails and have many different kinds. I buy some and I make some. I almost now have one in every color! I also have a variety of fins and depending on what I am doing have different favorites. I even have one I have yet to swim in and hope to do that soon. Maybe it will become a favorite!

I have met some of you along the way of mermaiding either at functions or online. Mermaids make the best friends! (:

Yay! I always wanted a fairy godmother, so I'm guessing that a jelly grandmer is the ocean version. (Jellies are like fairies of the sea cause they glow!)
