Painting silicone?

I know silicone is paints worse enemy, but are there any ways to touch up /color a tail that has been worn down without the color coming off?

Eventually, the paint will just wear down anyway, but from experience if you mix up a little bit of silicone, in a 1:1 ratio, and add silicone pigment to part B before mixing with part A it should stay on for a while. I don't know how, or who, your tail was made, but I hope this helps :)

You can paint with just about anything on silicone, but it will eventually wear or crack. If you paint with tinted/colored silicone it will stick to the original silicone and they will bond together and stay for longer.

Typically you can paint silicone with pigmented silicone, as others stated above. Unfortunately, since the silicone is past it's green period (the period where new silicone will bond with other silicone applied on it), it won't bond correctly, and that too will eventually peel off.

There's one tail maker who has found a way around this issue (Merbella Studios), where she can completely repaint tails that are years old and the paint bonds and doesn't budge, but for now that is her trade secret.

If you're only covering small patches, you can try using silicone caulking to touch up those small areas. GE silicone caulking isn't the same kind of silicone and for whatever reason, will bond to silicone past the green period. Myself and many others have used it to successfully re-attach torn off fins and touch up small areas of worn paint. You can pigment it with powder pigments, even eyeshadow.
Just be sure to wear gloves (nitrile gloves) and wash your hands well after handling (yes, even with the gloves) and use in a well ventilated area (warning: the fumes are pretty potent). It's super thick and goopy so using a paint brush (will have to be thrown out after) or popsicle stick is helpful in applying.

Be sure to wash the areas you're applying well with blue dawn soap (let it dry completely), then with rubbing alcohol (preferably 90%) before applying. This will ensure all the dirt, oil, and other residues are gotten rid of so it will bond well.
