Hello my fish family!

I have looked on the forum and couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. Anyway, I have begun hunting for potential mertenders but I'd like to specifically know about pay. I know this is different for everyone but a starting point would be great.

Do you pay your mertender hourly or flat rate per party?

Does their wage depend on their responsibilities for various events? (Just monitoring, taking underwater photos, etc)

If your mertender is a friend/boyfriend/significant other do you still pay them? Is it the same amount you would pay a mertender whom you have a professional relationship with only?

And other input is also appreciated! Thanks :)

I'm taking a wild guess and say that most mertenders are probably people's relatives, friends or partners.

After all, they are going to touch you everywhere, haul you around, and handle all your personal things.
Doesn't sound like a position I would want to hire someone for I barely know.

Yeah I've been worried about that for if/when I start doing parties. I don't even know many people in my new town to begin with. :/ But I think I'd do it alone w/o an assistant rather than hiring a stranger. My parents hired a young woman for their business who ended up robbing the entire place! Maybe I've become paranoid from that, idk. You just can't trust anybody.

I tend to rope my friends into mer tending. The boys are always very eager haha. I usually promise pizza as payment.

Someone like Raina would be best to answer this.

I don't exactly have a circle of friends in my area (besides my boyfriend who wouldn't work a kids pretend party if his life depended on it) they all live elsewhere in the country and state

Also I'm located in the US so it's probably somewhat different than Canada, though Ill welcome all input :) I just want to get an idea of what multiple mers do

My Mertenders are basically my hubby and my little brother,

My Husband doesn't want any money from me, So for his mertender service I end up paying with trips to red lobster, Applebee's and Ihop and occasionally buying him a video game (lol simple things I know but that's all he asks for)

My little brother - it depends on how much I get for a party for example If it was a $160 party, I would give him $40- $60. But for a $225 party, I'll pay him $60- $80 depending. ( and sometimes he just asks for $40)

See my Mertenders do photos/video and are consistently helping me put the tail on, monitoring during parties as well, and helping me drag that 32lb monster through Subways and streets of New York. So I don't mind giving them a bit more if I feel it wasn't enough for their hard work. I always treat my Mertenders with food right after the party/event. (okay I may spoil them a bit)

best thing to do is sit down and figure out from the money you get from a party, how much is going into travel and then go from there. Personally if you have a friend you trust, its the best way to go.

Well my mertender will definitely be an acquaintance (I have a person in mind and they said they would be interested) but I still want to make sure they're being paid fairly! I'm pretty self sufficient with getting ready, loading stuff etc so mostly it will be general assisting and monitoring
