View Full Version : My tail won't dry! Help!

So I own a basic silicone tail by the mertailor (neoprene on the inside of the body and fluke, silicone on the outside) and I have noticed that the body dries fine, but the fluke will not. It still drips and squishes with water and I am worried that it will mold. There is no way for me to remove the water and it's starting to really bother me. I have tried to step on the edges a bit and it doesn't do much. Any advice?

Just out of curiosity, what steps do you usually take to dry your tail? I had a latex/neoprene tail with the same issue. The only thing that worked was propping it open and leaving it in the sunshine for two days. Left flat it would take a week to dry, or at least four days in the sun. (It was a strange tail. It's retired now, for dry events only.) I hope this helps. :3

all i can recommend if hanging it upside down and blowing a fan up into it

I hang it up and let it drip overnight, then put a dehumidifier beneath it for another day or two, then let it hang for another three (just to be sure). The body dries just fine, it's the fluke that is worrying me! :gah:

I wish I had something helpful to say. :( I'm so sorry to hear about that!

My merbella tail is neoprene on the inside, so I usually used a bunch of towels to dry the body as much as I could and then turn it inside out as much as I could. Then stick something in there to hold it open and put a desk fan near it. That's how I did it anyway.

I have the same kind of tail. Towels as mush as possible then hang upside down. When washing use some vinegar to keep it from molding. It'll still take like 3 or so days to dry.

I have heard of using vinegar, but I never knew how much or what kind (so to speak) to use. Should I let it soak? if so, for how long?

I have a tail with neoprene in the fluke as well of my merbellas. I put towels bellow and beneath it and stand on it to squish the water out, then I put heavy objects on top of it to help squeeze it out. I also put a fan inside the tail and let it blow air through for a far but for these types of tails they dont totally dry it.

Yeah I have been doing similar things with mine. Do you rinse it with anything other than water?

I wonder if something like this would help?
You could take a a few of these little silica gel packets, put them in a sachet (like those little potpourri bags), and after you get your tail as dry as you can, throw it in there toward the foot pockets to help absorb excess moisture. This would also be a good way to maintain your tail when not in use, especially for those that live in more humid areas. I'm not sure if I'd want to leave more than a small a sachet of this stuff in my tail for a super long time after its done it's job, if there is a any risk of over-drying. With that said, it's worth a try if you have trouble getting moisture out of harder to dry areas.

I have a neoprene and sequin one and just stuff it with towels at first and replace the towels a few times. I also like the idea of the sillica, might as well get a bag of sillia kitty litter, put some in a sock you tie shut and stuff it in the fluke to absorb the moisture....Maybe check it after a few hours to mae sure it doesnt overdry or alter the neoprene...

yeah we use the silicia too it's actually non toxic if you do eat it, they have those warnings because of choking hazard lol. (not that I expect any of u will eat it lol)

Can I ask how many packets you use? This is a game changer for me, haha.

I wonder if an electric boot dryer with hip wader extentions like Cabela's sells would work.

I use the peet dryer too but it takes daaaays to even somewhat dry, and deep down in the foot pockets it stays damp :-( Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any tips? How tall is your dryer? Did you put any extensions on it?

I think the boot dryer really depends on the tail.
I stuff as many of the silicia packets as I can in the pockets. they also help for fixing wet cell phones or cameras! way better than rice. You can order bulk online.
