Hi all!
As I'm getting closer to finishing my tail and (hopefully) taking it for a swim, I'm really wondering how other mers post underwater swimming photos and videos to instagram. Are you filming with a waterproof camera? Or are you doing it somehow else? I'd really like to post some of my tail in action. (Once it's finished and taken for a maiden swim)

As long as you can get the footage on your camera roll on your phone (not sure what it's called on Android phones or other phones but that's what it's called on iPhones) you can post it to Instagram. So you can use any camera you want :)
And thank god for that. Before they made the option to post videos that were on your phone already, you film videos in the instagram app itself. To get around that I use to have to reformat videos specifically for Instagram's specs, and basically hack my phone and Instagram to get them on there :P Was a huge pain!

I film most videos with my GoPro (in the waterproof housing), and I use an app called iTransfer (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/itransfer-wifi-camera-roll/id644941575?mt=8) that lets me put videos directly into my phone's camera roll. It's pretty simple, you go into the app and tap the wifi symbol, type the URL into your browser on your computer, then you can download or upload any photos or videos you want. Once it's done uploading, it's on your camera roll, then can be put on Instagram :)

There are lots of other apps that do the same thing. On Android or other phones it may be easier than that. But I'm not sure cause I've never had one :P I think on Android phones you can just plug the SD card into your computer, copy the video on there, then put it back in your phone. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, that's just a guess from what I've heard.

Some people use their phones in waterproof cases to film, but I wouldn't risk it. I have a lifeproof case (waterproof among other things) that people use in pools and such, but nope, I'd rather not have to pay my phone insurance $200 for a replacement becuase the case leaked or something. I stick with my GoPro.

Anyway, hope that helps answer your questions!

I am a primary GoPro user and can easily share raw/slightly edited (using the in app functions) directly to instagram within minutes of shooting. But me being me, I like to plug all my footage into software and add a buttload of effects, light leaks, cuts and music to a 1 minute mermaid video for instagram. From there I render it to the correct settings to share on instagram (I made a pre-set so I wouldn't have to look it up everytime) and export. I then upload the video to a folder I have in my Google Drive, download it on my phone and post it from there. I usually make these videos in batches, so it helps me to label which ones I have posted already in the Drive folder. Call me crazy, but I consider it my outlet.
Here are a few examples of the videos I like to post
