Hiya all.

I got a question. I want to make a costume of a Star Wars race, a togruta. The clothes won't be a problem since I got enough experience with making those, the question is more about the headpiece which consist out of 2 horns and 3 tails, all formed together.

I've seen some people online making this of latex, but as I will probably get into contact with a lot of people I don't want them to give them an allergic reaction. And I have seen the headtails fold or wrinkle strangely when they move them, or they are really stiff.
So I was wondering if I could make it completely or partially from silicone, as I want the headtails to move naturally.
I've been looking at paperclay for the horns, so that they would be light, but I'm afraid that it won't be strong enough for the weight of the headtails if made of silicone.

Do you guys have any ideas for this?

PS. I'm sorry if this isn't the place for asking this, and you can remove the post.

I'd talk to Theobromine about it. I know she made the lekku for a Twi'lek cosplay.

Also, it might be useful to scope around the 501st Legion's websites on costuming. They aim for extreme detail and realism, so likely someone has tried silicone.

I did, and so far I could only find that they used latex. I will continue to dig, and was hoping to find other angles before I stare myself blind at this. :)

It's the same technique with silicon as with latex ;) I learned to make masks and other 3D-stuff in latex at make-up-school and now using the same technique to make my silicon (dragonskin) tail & top ;)

It's the same technique with silicone as with latex ;) I learned to make masks and other 3D-stuff in latex at make-up-school and now using the same technique to make my silicon (dragonskin) tail & top ;) The only difference is the painting, latex is base-color into the liquid latex and more color after it's all been made (you can use almost any kind of paint/pigment to color latex) and for silicone you mix dry pigment with the silicone to color/paint it.

if you molded it in a 2+ part mold you could use foam
