Just as Bonnie said we also are so excited to be swimming with everyone again.. Honestly I think I swan a total of 10 mins at the last event so I am so looking forward to swimming and meeting so many new Mers and just chilling with the crowd!! We'd also like to draw your attention to the GAC rules. There are a few they made exceptions for us (such as use of floaties, and running a lesson, and using the tails) I've copied it right from their website but left some notes in blue.

Rules of the Swimming Pool
*Greensboro Aquatic Center staff reserve the right to dismiss, suspend, or prohibit from the facility any person endangering the health, safety, or pleasure of the facility patrons. Guests must acknowledge and abide by facility age guidelines upon entry to the facility.



AGE GUIDELINES:
*Children age 5 and under must be accompanied in the water by a parent or guardian (age 18 or older).

*Children that cannot walk across the deepest part of the pool (4 feet) without assistance will need to be accompanied in the water by a parent or guardian (age 18 or older).
*All swimmers must wear a swim suit. T-shirts, cut offs, sweat pants, basketball shorts, gym shorts, etc. are not permitted. Individuals who are not potty-trained must wear swim diapers in addition to swimming suit.

*Children age 12 and under require adult supervision.



Swimming is only allowed when there is a lifeguard on duty
All swimmers must shower before entering the pool
All swimmers must wear a swim suit. T-shirts, cut offs, sweat pants, basketball shorts, gym shorts, etc. are not permitted. Individuals who are not potty-trained must wear swim diapers in addition to swimming suit.
Lap lanes are for lap swimming only - Mermania does not have access to the Lap lanes, it's being used for a private training
No running on the pool deck
No diving in recreation pool
No floatation devices are allowed in the pool. NO EXCEPTIONS.- Mermania is allowed in the divewell and during the kid's lessons
No horseplay, hanging on lane lines, inappropriate behavior or excessive splashing is allowed.
Diving blocks are to be used ONLY by authorized teams and instructors for instructional purposes.
The competition pool is for lap swimming and training purposes only Mermania does not have access to the Lap lanes, it's being used for a private training

Lap lanes are intended to accommodate multiple swimmers simultaneously and guests are encouraged to abide by this rule. GAC staff may ask patrons to share lanes when pool accommodations are limited. Mermania does not have access to the Lap lanes, it's being used for a perpetrate private training

Patrons must be able to pass a swim test in order to enter the competition pool. Swim test is conducted as follows: Jump in the water from the side, recover to the surface, swim 25 yards with a competent stroke (front crawl or breaststroke), tread water for 1 minute, then exit the water. As requested by GAC, children will need to do a swimtest to be in the dive well.
All diving boards and diving platforms are closed to the public. Only GAC authorized swim organizations have access to diving boards and platforms. Our photographers will have access to the diving boards for photos
Lifeguard stands are off-limits to everyone, except the Lifeguards. Do not stand under, on, or in front of lifeguard stand.
Only swim team and swim lessons are allowed to use GAC swim equipment. Only life jackets are allowed to be given out to those who need them.
Only GAC authorized swim lessons are allowed in the facility.
Profanity or any offensive language is prohibited.
No pets, except for qualified service animals for the disabled are permitted in the pool area. Pets are not allowed in the pool.
Greensboro Coliseum property prohibits the use of any alcohol or tobacco products.
Guests with open sores, cuts, bandages or communicable diseases are not permitted in the pool

No food/drink or chewing gum allowed on the pool deck. (Exception: water, sports drinks and power bars are allowed during non-meet times)
Glass containers are prohibited within the facility
Use lockers in locker room at your own risk. Locks are available at the front desk for $1.00 rental with collateral exchange. Customer bags and/or belongings may be kept on pool deck. Mermania can't accept any liability on anything lost, so use a locker!
The facility welcomes families and guests of all ages and therefore locker room decency is required. Wear a towel or outer garment at all times, especially when moving from the showers to the locker room and vice versa.
Cell phones, cameras or other electronic devices may not be used or visible in the locker rooms. This especially applies to cell phones. Step into public area to use your phone. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Guests over five years of age are not permitted to enter the opposite gender restroom/locker room. Please use the family changing rooms located on the recreation pool deck in between the male and female locker room entrances. They have made available an additional bathroom for us that is gender neutral.
Interpreter services are available at no cost in accordance with Title VI.
For the comfort and inclusion of all individuals, the Greensboro Aquatic Center offers women's, men's and family/gender neutral dressing rooms. In addition, the GAC also offers women's, men's and family/gender neutral public restroom facilities.

*It shall be a violation for any patron to not comply with any written or oral rules, regulations, or requirements imposed by Greensboro Aquatic Center personnel. Personal conduct in and around the aquatic facilities must be such that the safety of self and others is not jeopardized. Any such violation may result in immediate removal from the facility.


PLEASE REMEMBER: Mermania has no control over GAC enforcing their rules, and as we've written on the Mermania website they may subject kids under 13 to a swimtest to use the Divewell. This is at the lifeguard's discretion, and we have no say. Mermania has no power if the GAC decides to remove someone for breaking their rules. So please be sure to give them a read and make sure we're all in compliance so we have an awesome time!

Extra Bedding Policy
Rollaway beds are only permitted in rooms with one king bed.

Alcohol Policy
Alcoholic beverage service is restricted to those 21 years or older (with valid identification).

Package Handling Policy
There is a package handling fee for all incoming and outbound packages. Please contact (1)(336)292-9161 extension 4106 for exact fees.


Smoking Policy
All guest rooms and public spaces are 100% non-smoking. A 200 USD cleaning fee will be charged to any guest who violates the smoking policy.





Check Cashing Policy
Check cashing services are available to guests who present a valid, major credit card photo identification. There is a limit of $50 a guest, per day.


Credit/Debit Card Policy
Debit and Credit cards will be authorized at check-in for the amount of your stay, plus an amount to cover incidentals. The authorization will hold the funds until check out, at which time the amount actually incurred during the stay will be charged. Authorized amounts may take up to 30 days after departure to be released by your bank or financial institution and the hotel will not be responsible for any resulting fees or charges.

that's what they tell us! I am not in NC to confirm personally, but it is now being advertised on their website too! When we get there on Saturday Sean or Dan and I will make sure to have them show us.

If anyone experiences any issues from the general public (I don't anticipate any from the mer community) over bathroom use, please find one of the staff or a GAC staff. I mean really I'll just send muscly-armed paper boy Sean over to chat with anyone who causes problems hahaha but, GAC specifically says they will remove anyone who harasses or causes problems :)

Hey folks, we've had a few people report having issues ordering through square. Please check the following list of known issues, and if you're still having problems, send us a PM! (on the fanpage)

1) if you are outside of US it will not accept your payment, so please PM us for an invoice
2) It will only accept approved credit cards: Visa, MC, American Express, Discover, and JCB
3) your billing address must match what is on your credit card (some people missed this, and had to change it with their bank)

Any of these issues can result in your card being charged and automatically refunded/cancelled. Several people have had the issue so far. and it's taken a lot of detective work to figure out why!

Awe thanks Cookie! So many mers are coming now to see us there, my heart has been greatly moved by this. I was thinking of bringing my giant inflatable clamshell. But not sure if there would be a space for it? It would be cute for mers to take pix in it. Plus it lights up so if not able to have it poolside then at the ball....but obviously that's not up to me. Are other mers bringing their clams with them? At other conventions some mermaids have brought their clam floats so I'm just politely asking beforehand. I don't want to clutter anyone's space!

The GAC doesn't want any inflatables this year. I thought they'd be OK because there were several last year. But we were recently told none this year. And nothing that plugs in outside of things we have approved for vendors.

Maybe the hotel pool? You'd maybe have a better idea if you called the Sheraton to ask! I think it also depends too if it needs to be plugged in and what the power wattage is for fire regulations.

I am officially coming to MerMainia! My hotel is booked and I just purchased my ticket! I am so excited to meet you guys, although quiet nervous as well…I have never met another Mer in person!!!! Whether I will get to show up in my tail in progress is a mystery, but I don't mind swimming in my fabric tail…I guess I will see y'all there.

As for the clam, I've used mine at various Sheratons before without an issue so maybe it will be fine. At the very least my "sparkle" pod members have a suite rented that we could set it up in for fun photos.

You will have the chance to pick the brains of several experts in the mer-field. They will each give a brief introduction, and then you can ask them questions! I'll be moderating it to be sure we keep on time and that everyone who wants to ask something gets a chance. We'll also collect a few questions beforehand from people who are watching via livestream.

Hello fishies we are nearing the last few weeks before our convention. Here’s all the information you need to know!






FORMS & RULES - We have standards forms and waivers we need you to sign. You do not need to print them and bring them, as we will have them on hand in person with your welcome package. If you are under the age of 18 it may be wise to download the GAC Liability form and have a parent sign it. WHAT DOES MY PASS COVER? – The Convention pass covers: entrance into the GAC, Vendor area, and Divewell for the weekend. All panels at the hotel, Aqua Yoga at the GAC, Closing Ceremonies at the hotel, and after hours swims.






SPECTATOR PASSES – These are only for use at the GAC facility and do NOT cover any events at the hotel. You must have a convention pass to access the GAC Dive well, workshops, Hotel Panels, Closing Ceremonies, and After Hours Swim. Spectator passes are only intended for parents who are supervising children at the kid’s swim/story time, and people who are supervising merfolk for safety/want to shop at the vendor space. The spectator passes allow entrance to the pool deck only, and the vendor space only. They are 5$ a day and available on the website under ticketing . www.ncmermania.com






EARLY REGISTRATION- You can pick up your registration package early if you’d like. Your package will include all the forms you need to sign, special items from our vendors and sponsors, your convention pass, and more. The first 100 people to pick up their package will get a gift valued at $50 from “The Mermaid Tail Party”- one of our awesome sponsors. Early registration takes place 1 hour before the mixer outside of the mixer room, and during the mixer. Regular registration starts at 10am at the GAC






BUYING TICKETS AT THE CONVENTION- We will have limited tickets for the convention and various events available at the registration desks prior to and during the mixer, and also at the GAC. We strongly suggest you purchase tickets prior to the event, however if you need to during the event you can. We can accept exact cash, or you can still purchase online. If you purchase online you will need to show your confirmation and ID to the registration staff.






DAY PASSES- Are available both for regular convention passes, and spectator passes, on the website.






ID- Please have appropriate ID on hand. You will need your ID to pick up your welcome package, and because alcohol will be served at some events you’ll need to be able to prove you are “of age” if required.






MIXER AND CRAFT SWAP- Our Mixer is graciously sponsored by Finfolk. It is $15 and tickets are still available. There will be snacks served, and a cash bar. The Pirate DJ will also be entertaining us. Our Gold level Vendors will also be available if you wanted to pick up something early (such as a signed copy of Rescue Sirens). The craft swap is voluntary and there is no expectation of participation. It is up to you if you’d like to give away or trade a craft.






BALL- We are thankful to have Mertailor as our sponsor for the Ball. We have a limited number of full ball tickets left as we must give exact numbers to the catering. Ball only (without meal) will still be available. During the ball we will get to be entertained by both Pirate Jim the DJ/Magician, and Mermaid Glimmer with her light show. We ask that you do NOT bring any glitter or confetti to the ball as it is against the hotel policy. There WILL be black lights. The meal will be a buffet style with some vegetarian options, we apologize but the hotel cannot accommodate vegan.






FOOD AT THE GAC AND HOTEL- The GAC has made concessions available during the convention. The Hotel has several restaurants along with a Starbucks inside.






VENDORS- We have some Amazing Vendors lined up. Our Silver Tier vendors will be at the GAC only: Hayley Edward’s Mermaid Accessories, & Operation Mermaid. Our Gold tier vendors will be present at the Mixer, GAC, Ball, and Closing ceremonies: Finis, Finfolk, Mertailor, Rescue Sirens, & Fishy Business.






WORKSHOPS- We still have spaces in the Underwater posing workshop, Safety workshop, and Merwrnagling workshop. The Underwater time slots are sold out, however Mountain Mermaid Photography (Karsten) will be providing some underwater candids like they did last year.

I am so excited to see everyone at Mermania and am thankful that Dan and his team was able to take the torch and keep the community meeting together in such a large convention setting. I have something I would like to say but cannot reach out to most of the Mer's and Mermen so I'm just going to do it here. I have unblocked everyone on my Facebook and dropped my guard I do not want to fight and or have hard feelings anymore ...I am sorry for any hard feelings that have occurred from myself or my fiancé . We are both sorry and want no more drama but only want the best for everyone. I am personally apologizing for any hurt to Raina, and Chris Obrocci who meant a lot to me . I am proud of you both and I believe you are both extremely sucsseful. Congrats on this success .. I will be at the convention . My fiancé and I just want to swim together meet some new faces and hug some friends. I want to forget the past and for god sakes never repeat it. IMPORTANT HEALTH AND SAFETY INFO.






For those of you who came last year, about 17 of us ended up contracting Hot tub folliculitis on Sunday night the last night at the con, from the hotel hot tub. Though the hotel staff were very diligently cleaning the pool and the hot tub all weekend, having close to 200 people come through made bacteria levels rise and they were not expecting such a steady stream of people Sunday night. This year we're trying to be really proactive to make sure no one has to worry about the hot tub. (the incident was isolated only to the hot tub at the hotel, not the pool or the GAC)






So we've spoken directly with hotel staff to make sure the water is being monitored extra with all this extra traffic, and adjusted accordingly. BUT You can help lower the risk as well! Please shower off before hopping in the hot tub. This is also great practice for any pool facility and is good to do before hopping in the GAC or the hotel pool Just a quick rinse goes a long way when we've got 200 people in the water. ;)






Hot tubs as always are use are your own risk. Kids, and those with high risk health conditions should refrain from using them.

Just got home ahead of the storms. But want to say what a BLAST I had down there! Loved meeting the folks I met, wish I could have met some more. I highly recommend this as a relatively inexpensive great time - if you don't have huge travel expenses, hotel is clearly the biggest expense. Tix were SO worth it!

It definitely was amazing!

If you're talking about the Luna, I saw a few mers wearing them in the pool for testing (FINIS was so kind!) and they are very flowy, being 100% silicone. Lovely shape, though, much like the SunTails'!

I tried it out, but I tried the one where the foot pockets were a bit too big. It was still very comfortable and it flowed very well. I really enjoyed it.

They'll start selling them soon, I think. She told me they were there as a trial for feed back before they launched and they hoped to eventually have different colors in each size in the future. They sold two of each size while they were there at a discounted rate ($45 for the small; yellow fading to red, $50 for the large; green fading to blue) and you could also pre-order one for the same price.

Nah, it wasn't the model thing I was concerned about for the photos, I'm just literally not in any of them. Lol. The gigantic group photo that's the cover on the Facebook event page, this is funny, the photo cuts off the top half of my body all the way at the left but barely gets the shadow of my (then pink) tail. It got the girl next to me [emoji28] so close, yet so far!

I was right next to you and Alex in your tails but I am a mer peasant and was not cool enough [emoji12] I'm kidding!

I just haven't got my fin in the door in terms of my mermaid business due to my physique and my identity (being NB). I really wanted your book, Raina, but I didn't know if you were selling them at the event. I saw some copies, but no one was around, and I didn't know what to do 🤷🏻*♀️ one day I'll get that book!

My two friends that came along were right next to you guys in the group photo, one had a rainbow ragged-fin tail with dots on it and one had long dark hair and a pastel pink and purple tail. I would've been able to get in the photo if I had the strength to pull myself out of the water. By the time I came back from the stairs, someone had my spot :(

It was so amazing there with you all, though, even if no one recognized me after all these years [emoji6] I knew all of you, but I couldn't say anything! Gah!

Alex's accent has to be the most endearing thing ever. Lovely.

I'm just trying to get my lil business started back up, since it meant so much to my sister before she passed. It's giving me my passion back.

As someone who has had lifelong issues with anxiety and showed up not knowing a soul, I can just tell you - this was a VERY open, accepting community. I didn't have the guts to try on a tail, but I know I will, and I know I'll be back next year.

I know it's tough, but please don't let anxiety issues control you. My life would have been SO much better if I had, in the words of Lady MacBeth, screwed my courage to the sticking place and just gone out and DONE things.

But hey - you're here. You're at least experimenting with this community. You have the guts to put on a tail and swim with it. All that takes guts. Rebela, in my book, that makes you a CHAMP. :cool::cool::cool:

As for photos, be patient! It hasn't been a week, yet! I still have pix I haven't even looked at and I'm an imaging pro! Gotta give merpeople time to go through and upload! (I do this every year with the Coney Island Mermaid Parade...sometimes it takes MONTHS to see a photo from an event!)

I got it today and I am in LOVE with it! [emoji7] just as shiny and beautiful as I remember it with an extra dose of pretty. Smells the same, too [emoji6] thank you so much, ah! The packaging was gorgeous, the drawing was adorable, and I LOVED that the hair clip matched my tail colors ^.^ I always get so happy when people actually remember things about me!

I feel like a lot of you know me but have never *seen* me, if you know what I mean. I don't post many pictures, but I'm working on that!

We've also invited a well known trans-activist to speak who is also a fan of mers! But not looking like it's going to line up with their schedule which is a big bummer :( you never know though!

Believe me this is a very upsetting thing and we're doing all we can to make things as safe as possible. We have hired security, have agreements with all our venues, and as far as participants in the convention there will be signed forms in place that cover everything under the sun- including this. It has been aknowledged multiple times and addressed directly with our venues.

We are all VERY hopeful that the elections will take care of this matter.

Last year, the trans community was welcomed with full arms, several members being featured in a positive light on local news as well. We stayed with the same venues specifically because they were so supportive last year, and promised to be so this year. I don't see a reason to change venues next year if they continue to be cooperative. Changing states is not something that can be easily done with an established convention- espcially when it comes to certain legalities and taxes and insurance, Dan is the owner of the convention and lives in NC. Especially after established connections and support.

The mer community actually has a very good history of addressing this stuff. One of the earliest mer-conventions was going to be at the mirage hotel, until it came out that the hotel manager was a huge bigot. and it was moved last minute despite the inconvience. I've been going for 4 years now, and all of the conventions I've attended have been in NC. Previous conventions actually had parts open to the public (such as a fashion show in a mall) unlike ours which is all pretty inclusive, and have yet to have an issue.

I'm not sure if you've attended these in the past or not but it might be cool to hook up with someone like Justin or Ed or Julz and ask them about their experiences at the previous conventions :)

Better late than never to respond to my name drop I suppose. I almost forgot about this site...lol... I never had any issues both years I went. Everyone I interacted with was great. They really work to make it a very safe and inviting place for all. so if you are looking for a place to go that will accept you for being you, want to make new and interesting friends, then yeah, this is the place to be.

I now live in Cali, but hope to one day get to Mermania sooner or later. Travel budget just isn't there and I won't go crowdfunding tickets like I have seen done. But its a great group of people. I hope you went and were able to meet them in person!
