View Full Version : One Tail (Skin) Two Monofins?

So I am trying to plan my first (non-fabric) tail. I am almost entirely positive I will be making a partial silicone (silicone caulking on top of neoprene like Tigg and Momo have done). The problem I have run into however is that I would like to possibly use two different monofins. This way I could use a fiberglass monofin (a Waterway most likely) when swimming in the ocean and rivers/lakes to combat the currents, but a Mahina when swimming in calmer waters such as pools (I would trim the mahina's outside curls a bit so the relative shapes are closer to each other). Has anyone made a Silicone, neoprene or partial silicone tail that is like this? I imagine it would be easier to work out if I was just making a fabric tail, but since this is a silicone partial it would be considerably more expensive and I want to be sure this will work.

(Also, if you own either of those monofins could you please check out this post (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?12914-Requesting-pics-of-Mahina-and-Waterway-monofins-with-tape-measure&p=242988#post242988) in the monofin section requesting a pic of both fins with a measuring tape laying across it?)

It works but you may have issues with a mahina fin because of the shape. I made my neoprene tails with an open bottom so I could switch out the monofins. I use my fiberglass one for ocean swims and then a trimmed finis rapid for land photoshoots and shallow water.

Glad to hear someone else has done it! I've taken the Mahina's shape into consideration and plan to trim the upturned edges so they are more rounded (Like how Tigg on here trims hers). I also plan to leave the bottom open and seal it with velcro.

All my tails, neoprene and fabric, have removable monofins, sealed with velcro or a zip.

Love the idea! I really look forward to seeing you do it!
Also making a cardboard pattern would help a lot for sizing and helping the shape 😊
