Selling things at gigs you volunteer for?

Hi all! As I now have a tail of my own (almost) I'm starting to think of gigs I'd like to do. I don't have any plan at the moment to start off the bat offering mermaid parties (unless requested for the party) but I do want to do readings and craft events and tea parties as a mermaid. My question is, if I do a reading at a library, and I read a book that say, I write and illustrate myself, how wrong would it be to offer the book for sale after the reading is done?

Is that bad business or seem like I'm trying to milk them for money? What about if I volunteer for an event like an earth day event, can I sell some goods like children's books, necklaces, etc? As long as they're mermaid related and made by me?

No your just offering a book that they wouldn't be able to buy elsewhere. Just ask your library if it's ok. I won't be selling books at my library simply because it violates their contract with the store here on base.
