So I've been lurking a lot and posting a little and just realized I haven't officially introduced myself. So..... Hi!

I'm Melissa, but generally Shey or Sheyoni all over the web. Like everyone else here I'm sure, I've been obsessed with mermaids since I can remember. Next month I turn 29 and I can't believe I never discovered mermaiding exists until now!

I've been feeling the mermaid vibe lately with my sea green hair. It's about a month and a half faded right now though so I'll need to redo it soonish.

I am determined to find time this summer to make myself a cloth tail. I can't make up my mind what kind of pattern /color scheme I want though.

If I could have any tail in the world though? Hmmm, I would want a scale pattern to match my amelanistic corn snake (Lieutenant Linguine) done pearlie style with individual scales <3

And random pictures of my pets, for funsies.

So... Yeah. Hi?

Hello!!! I love the title of this thread [emoji23] Joanne's swimming and dance section has really good options for fabrics!!! You can pretty much find any color in this really nice sparkly stretchy fabric that looks like it has scales! There are lots of different monofin threads that have good information on them if you're having trouble picking one of those! Welcome and good luck with your first fabric tail!!!!!

I love your hair and your idea to have a tail match your snake.

Thank you guys! I am totally worn out from moving to a new (third floor) apartment. Oh man those stairs.

I've got a Joanne's super close by so once bills have settled into a regular pace, I'll definitely be hitting them up.

I'm not 100% decided, but I really love the shape and flow of the mahina merfin. I'll have to read more reviews to decide though.

Love the hair! I'm in Tulsa I saw from my thread you are in Oklahoma (HI OKIE!)

You know another cool spot to get the fabric you want (even design your own fabric) is spoonflower.com
I designed fabric of my pod of mermaids of us n had it printed n made scarves.

Spandexworld is also a really good place to get some decent 4-way stretch spandex. Really inexpensive, too!

Welcome from Orlando!

Thank you guys! I'll keep both places in mind as I look around. Right now I'm still working on saving the money.

Aloha Melissa! Oh my goodness. Your post made me smile so much! I love your hair and your pets are SO awesome! Good luck with your tail! I love your idea. I have this feeling that I've seen the perfect fabric print somewhere...but I cannot remember where or if it was a good material for a tail. If it comes to me I'll be sure to send it your way! I agree with Mermaid Nelly, Jo-Ann's Fabrics is a magical place! Some of their stores even still carry neoprene!

The last time I was handling Lin I got a pretty, closeup of her tail.

Some day, if I ever have the money, I'd love to commission an individual scale tail to mimic that pattern. In the mean time I'm going to start with something very simple so I can start learning how to swim in a monofin.
