First Fabric tail journey! Lots of questions

Hey guys I'm gonna try my hands at making a fabric tail. Quick question. What monofin should I get? I was thinking the Finis foil but I'm not sure. Any suggestions from other mers who have made a fabric tail before?

I use the Mahina fin for the fabric tail that Mermaid Leina made for me :D It looks really pretty with the Mermaid styled fluke shape :)

It really all does depend on a lot of factors. How experienced with monofins are you? is a mermaid fluke shape important? If so are you willing to modify it yourself? How much are you willing to spend? Where will you be primarily swimming?

If you're new to monofins this will limit you to the basics for beginners. So things like the foil, wave/rapid, mahina, aquarius, maybe shooter

If the fluke shape is important to you then you're limited a bit as well it'd take your options down to mostly mahina or Aquarius

If you're willing to modify it yourself then that puts a couple on the table, mostly rapid/wave and competitor.

What is your budget? There are the cheaper ones, such as foil, wave/rapid, Aquarius, mahina. Mid ranged like the shooter, trainers or expensive like the competitor.

The locations you swim should also be heavily considered when choosing since I would say it may be dangerous if you're going to be swimming in the ocean with something like the foil.
Basically open ocean would mean a competitor, trainer or shooter to be safe. Lakes you could get away with any above or a wave/rapid or mahina maybe an Aquarius if you're a strong swimmer and the above plus foil if you're mainly swimming in pools.

But this is mostly a guideline, not rules and just my personal opinion. How extravagant your tail the more drag you'll experience and this may effect things.

I do have experience with monofins and tails. I had the basic tail from mertailor for a while.
Definitely not swimming in the ocean. Mostly the springs or pool.
I'm trying to go for the look like the weeki wachee mermaid tails.
I don't really have a budget since I don't have a time frame. So I'm buying everything as I can then I'm making my tail.

Sun Tail Monofin's shape looks like that. I have one myself. Its quite nice to swim in, light to carry and suits me better than the Mahina Merfin, in terms of current abilities. Its also nearly the same size as Mahina Merfin.

I've not had my feet coming out of the foot pockets whilst swimming. The foot pockets are removable.

No. They do lift away when you're swimming, but they don't actually come off.
