So I just finish making my first mermaid top...sadly, although beautiful, it did not cover up enough stuff! I was chating with one of my mermaid friends and got the most interesting idea, to mold a pair of silicone/latex lion paw shell. It sounds very tempting, I have seen people do it to sea stars but why not shells? If you mold a pair of silicone/latex lion paws then they can be any size, shape, color and will mold perfectly to your liking. If anyone has any ideas about how to do this or someone who has do it (even someone who can make and sell them) I would be very interested in hearing the information! THANX GUYS ;)

I know that MVD made silicone lion paws as a bra.

Haha, I sort of doubt it. I'm pretty sure I could explain to you how he made them though if you would like to PM me.

I'd also be really interested to hear about it, I think it would be a fantastic thing to know how to make!

Doesn't look difficult to make at all. All you'd need is plaster of paris and create a relief of the shell, then use latex/silicone in the mould. It's a snap!

Since these shells use a lot less latex or silicone than a tail, this seems like an ideal way to practice casting and working with silicone and latex molds for anyone that wants to make a silicone or latex tail.

I've been toying around with the idea of making some, especially since my search for scallop shells (or something like them) large enough for my chest has been completely fruitless...

Same here! It would be really helpful to have a pair to cover everything :)

I was actually really tempted to snag them, but my tail isn't going to be nearly the right colors for them.

Hello Mermaid Lorelei. Thanks! I really would be just the basics on making on. I have never worked with Silicone before and not quite sure if it's easy or difficult. Or where to get any. Any advice or guidance would be fantastic:)

The majority of this project is simply finding a mold material you like (the material that will keep the shell shape) and the silicone you want to use. I suggest looking at the platinum silicone on Smooth-on.com. They are also very helpful if you have questions.

At the most basic, you take a shell, cover it in your chosen mold material to make a mold, then pour silicone into your mold to produce a replica of the shell. Then you paint it and wear it.
